Imagine for a moment…..
You begin your day with a simple service call. Maybe a PM. Then you are given your next call, about 30 minutes away. You get in your car and begin to drive only to discover there’s a tremendous amount of stopped traffic. You find alternate routes and arrive at your customer and hour later.
When you enter your customer’s office, the secretary greets you with, “Well it took you long enough!” You ask the customer about the issue they are facing. They tell you and then say, “You guys are always here. Should we set up a permanent desk up for you?!” Then when you close the call out you receive a phone call from your boss who says, “It took you too long to get there. You need to find an alternative route next time!”
This is the beginning of your day. The rest of it doesn’t go well. Your mind is set. People are impatient and angry. Your company only cares about numbers and part costs.
This is the average day of a service technician. It’s a day of people being impatient, machines being down that they have to fix and bosses who care more about company than people. But it doesn’t have to be this way.
Sending a word of encouragement to your service technician may just be exactly what they need. Letting them know how much you appreciate their professionalism and expertise goes a long way.
Sure there are numbers we need to accomplish. Sure there will be irate customers. But at the end of the day, without your service technician being there for you in your time of need, the box is simply a box that needs to be fixed.
So today, take some time to be more positive and thank a service technician for all they do for you. We are the front lines of offense and defense for our companies. We get a lot of heat from all angles and yet we continue to do our jobs day in and day out and we do our best to put a smile on your face by fixing what only we can fix.
Smile, say thank you and let your appreciation show for you local service technician.
