I am delighted that the article “The Fruits of Spiritual Experiences during the Pandemic: COVID-19 and the Effects of Non-Ordinary Experiences” which I wrote Kate Stockly is now out. It was visible as "online pre-published" on the Journal's webpage for a while but it is now part of the newest issue of the International Journal for Religion and Transformation in Contemporary Society of https://lnkd.in/erfVU9ah It is the second paper we wrote about our research (the first one came out in the journal Alternative Spirituality and Religion Review). New blog post from our postdoctoral researcher Dr Mahmoud Ali Gomaa Afifi 'Interpretation, Practical Theology and Islamic Tradition: A Qualitative Hermeneutic Approach.' In this post, Mahmoud explores #interpretative approaches in relation to #Islamic #tradition and discusses the importance of juxtaposing #interpretation to #empirical investigation. He mentions examples drawn for Qur’ān 4:34 and Q. 2:229, referring to a wife's treatment by her husband and a woman's divorce rights. Mahmoud proposes that "tensions between text and meaning can be relaxed and be better understood when the text is read in connection with the concrete situation that the text is called to address. This interpretative process within theological studies can bring together textual interpretation and empirical investigation in a mutually fruitful conversation, hence bridging the gap between doctrine (or textual interpretation) and praxis."
