Recently, while recounting with a colleague about my career journey in Food System Research, and now more specifically in Food Safety Research, I was reminded about what ignited my passion for the study of food from the very start..
Back in secondary school, I took food and nutrition as a subject, and my teacher taught with such passion and clarity that I became deeply interested and somewhat obsessed in the subject. I discovered that there was a lot of science behind food, and I was particularly drawn to the profound impact food had on our physiological well-being. This ignited my interest in the study of food and led me to pursue a course of study in Food Science and Technology for my Bachelor's degree. I remembered going back to my secondary school teacher and telling her about my decision to study Food Science, and she was really excited.
At university, I encountered another lecturer whose passion for food science mirrored that of my secondary school teacher. Her depth of knowledge and enthusiasm continued to inspire me in my academic journey.
I am always excited about my choice of course of study as it was a stepping stone in my career journey and I'll always be grateful to my teachers who were literally guiding light, illuminating my career path in the study of the food system.
Reflecting on my experience, I realized that being passionate about something and communicating it effectively as an educator of a course/cause, has the power and potential of igniting an interest and passion in individual or a group, leading to empowerment and the potential for significant impact.
Whenever one has the opportunity to talk or educate about something of significance, effective communication, passion, knowledge, and experience should also be rightly put in play; you may literally be a torch to guide another on their path of fulfilling purpose!
Happy World's Teachers Day!🎉👏
