It really doesn't matter what position you hold in a zoo or safari park, you can still be a leader by the example you set. A keeper or guide that turns up each morning ready to take on the tasks for the day and is hungry for opportunities to improve their skills and experience is showing others by their example that they understand what is needed to be a valuable asset to their team and to the park. The opposite is true for those that turn up for work a few minutes before starting time or even late and then begrudgingly starts work, doing just what is required and never trying to improve their skills. This is not the example of someone worthy of being a leader, but rather an example to avoid. The exact same applies to those in a position of authority. A Director or Manager that arrives at the park and spends their time in their office barking orders with little knowledge or experience with the mechanics of a successful working park and fails to heed advice from those who are skilled and experienced in the zoo industry, are definitely not the type of person showing themselves as an example to follow. Whereas those in a position of authority that are seen out in the grounds communicating with their team and are open to being able to lean and be guided by those that have the skills and experience are showing by their example that they want to lead their team and park in reaching the goals and objectives of a successfully lead zoo or safari park. timhusband2005@gmail.com

A question every zoo or safari park employee should be asking her or himself is, "Do I know what my career goal is?" One thing that I have always told the staff working under my care is that I would be disappointed if I was to find them in the same position or that they hadn't advanced in any way, five years in the future. Doing the exact same routine not growing professionally or personally. This applied to all staff no matter where they worked within the organization. If our industry is to keep on advancing and growing, all dedicated staff need to be setting themselves goals for advancement. Keepers looking to become head keepers or section heads. Section heads to curators, studbook holders or specialist keepers. Guides to VIP guides or Marketing. Our industry is limitless in possibilities of advancement for those that wish to advance in their career by setting themselves goals. But the thing to remember is that in any professionally managed park positions won't just be handed out because of who you know or are related to. On the contrary, You will need to make sure that you have the skills and experience needed to fill the position before you are placed there, and if this is not the case then you are working in the wrong zoo. All of management need to make it part of their routine to check in with those under their supervision on a regular basis, helping and supporting them to not only set achievable goals to help them on their career path, but to also be ready to mentor those that hit walls that may slow down their progress. If, you as a staff member find that you have stopped growing professionally and it seems that the management in your zoo or safari park have no interest in the professional growth of their team members, then it's up to each individual to approach their direct supervisor requesting a time to be set aside to discuss their own professional ambitions and then have goals to be set to help them reach them. timhusband2005@gmail.com

👋 Meet Ben Fahlgren, Senior Manager, 👥People Operations. With Zippin since the end of 2020, Ben is based out of Eugene, Oregon where he lives with his wife (a registered 🏥nurse), two daughters (aged 7 and 14), his 🐱cat Pumpkin and 🐕lab Maya. Ben’s typical ☀️day begins with ☕coffee (he can’t live without it!) and walking his daughters to 🍎school. Because his role is highly 👍collaborative, he’s often working with cross-functional 🤝teams and assisting other departments to achieve our company's 🏆goals. One recent 📝project stands out - assisting the operations team with temporarily deconstructing a Zippin-powered 🛒store in preparation for a stadium 🏗️construction project. It felt great to help the customer safely store equipment during construction, and it 👀highlighted just how adaptable our installations are to 👏customer needs. 💖Best part of the job? “I find it incredibly exciting to be in a role that exposes me to innovative and fascinating 💡technology. It's inspiring to think about how our platform, along with similar technologies, will continue to make a significant impact in the 🌐future.” 🏘️Despite working remotely, Ben values the strong sense of connection and collaboration with his 👏fellow Zippiners.👏 It’s the perfect combination to have a strong corporate culture and effective 💬communication, along with flexibility to achieve 😊work/life balance. Outside of work, Ben enjoys 🛠️DIY home projects, 🌽gardening, and outdoor activities like ⛷️skiing, ❄️snowshoeing, 🚣kayaking, and ⛰️hiking. If Ben could have a 🦸superpower, it would be to 🦅fly because flying is “obviously” the best superpower! And if you’re looking for a 📘book recommendation, check out Erik Larson’s “The Demon of Unrest,” about the beginning of the Civil War. He’s not finished yet, but so far, it’s a winner!🎉 #WeAreZippin #ZippinHere

𝔖𝔢𝔳𝔢𝔫 𝔪𝔬𝔫𝔱𝔥𝔰 𝔞𝔤𝔬, I could not have imagined crawling on my stomach in the forest to capture the perfect shot of a dog enjoying a chewing bone – a dog that was not even one of my two trusty sidekicks! Nor could I have pictured myself diving into work-related content by the gentle shimmer of my evening lamp💡 Yet here I am, doing all this and so much more since I started working for Prima Pet Premium. Admittedly, I have often found LinkedIn posts praising employers a tad over the top 🤮 Forgive me as I now join their ranks: I might just have the best employer. Why, you might ask. Well, here are just a few reasons: 📸 I get to pursue tasks that deeply motivate me, even when they extend beyond my job description. 🙋♀️ Not once has my opinion or my questions been perceived as a nuisance – they are always welcomed. Or all my colleagues are top notch actors. ❤️ There is space for both good days and bad days. Sense and sensibility are not the opposite sides, sense and senseless are. Oh, and one more thing – one of my passions is photography. Here are a few snapshots I have taken for VAFO Finland | Prima Pet Premium Oy. I hope they bring a smile to your face as they do to mine!
