The most valuable lesson I learned on the job…
When I first started in construction, I thought I knew it all.
I was young, ambitious, and eager to make my mark.
But I quickly learned that there was a lot I didn't know and a lot I had to learn.
One of the most valuable lessons came from a seasoned foreman at one of my early jobs.
He pulled me aside one day and said, "Kid, in this business, your word is everything."
He went on to explain that the construction industry is built on trust.
Trust between contractors, clients, and crews.
And that trust starts with keeping your word.
If you say you're going to do something, you do it.
No excuses, no cutting corners.
These days everyone wants things done NOW!
This leads to corners being cut, jobs being rushed, and a quantity-over-quality approach.
That advice has stuck with me throughout my career.
It's guided how I operate, how I lead my team, and how I interact with clients.
Because at the end of the day, your reputation is all you have.
And in this business, a good reputation is worth its weight in gold.
