Meet Our Mob: Staff Spotlights! ☀️
Can you tell us a bit about yourself, your background, and what brought you to My Dilly Bag?
My name is Jordi. Aunty Dale, my mum’s sister, has been a source of inspiration for me ever since I was a child, especially her passion for bushfoods. After working as a chef for over six years, I seized the opportunity to join Aunty Dale in 2019.
What role do you play here?
After having my daughter two years ago, I transitioned into an administrative and digital marketing role.
Can you share a memorable project or achievement you've had with us so far?
One of my favourite projects was working behind the scenes during the filming of Aunty Dale's online cooking classes.
What are you passionate about outside of work?
I'm passionate about my family, gardening, and cooking!
What has been the most rewarding part of your experience working with Aunty Dale and our team?
Participating in bushfood cooking demonstrations at high schools with Aunty Dale has been incredibly rewarding, especially when I see how excited the students get about learning.
How do you see the future of our business, and what excites you about it?
I see the business growing, and I’m excited about tasting new products and recipes!
What advice would you give to someone interested in joining our industry or community?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions and try everything!
What advice would you give to someone new to using native herbs and spices in their cooking?
Start small. Native ingredients are packed with flavour, so a little goes a long way!
What challenges have you faced in working with native ingredients, and how have you overcome them?
One challenge was getting too excited and mixing too many flavours, leading to clashing tastes. I’ve learned to keep it simple by expanding my knowledge of the ingredients
What is your favourite native herb or spice, and why do you enjoy using it?
Lemon Myrtle is my favourite! I love its antibacterial properties and refreshing scent. I enjoy it so much that I’ve made Just Jordi's Oil Reed Diffusers to fill my home with its fragrance.
