Famous Last Words ❗ Today we had a bit of fun with what project managers say before things go wrong. If you are a project manager, you know that not two projects are the same. Even if you are working on a similar project to the one you did last year, there will always be differences. That is why it is important to create a new project plan for each project, rather than simply copying and pasting the old one. You may get new team members with different skills and experience, or you may have lost team members who were key to the success of the last project. Your stakeholders could also have different priorities or expectations for next year's project. Famous Last Words ❗ We had a bit of fun with project managers who underestimated projects. This is something most project managers have experienced at some point in their career. Walking into a new project, energized and thinking this is going to be easy and run totally smooth. But then reality hits and by the end of the project, you might experience a burnout due to some of the obstacles you met throughout the project. Project management tip of the day ⭐: Prioritize project management and utilize tools to streamline tasks, ensuring efficiency and prevent burnout by maintaining clarity and being organised throughout the project lifecycle. Famous Last Words ❗ Today we had a bit of fun with the concept known as the “Anchoring bias”. anchoring bias is the ninth of the top 10 cognitive bias that affect project management. When someone is met with information regarding a specific topic, they tend to rely on the first piece of information they get, to a large extent. Even when presented with conflicting information further down the line. This piece of information serves as an “anchor” for future decisions made regarding the topic. Project management tip of the day ⭐: The first piece of information you get might not always be the best. Consider all the available information before making decisions. People in project management roles must remain vigilant towards the unpredictable forces of nature that can disrupt meticulously planned projects. Our team faced a substantial challenge while dressing a transformer and vacuum circuit breaker. Unfortunately, a four-meter deep pit filling with water hindered our progress, underscoring nature's influence on project timelines and targets. #ProjectManagement #Challenges #NatureVsProjects

A Project Managers discussion: During a project I managed to install two separate routes for telecom cables (Fiber Optics & Ethernet), we encountered a significant challenge. The initial soil survey classified the ground as sandy, which of course is cheaper in budget than a solid ground. However, during drilling, we discovered that beneath 50 cm , the ground was rocky in most of the project landscape —contrary to the survey’s findings. This was a major impact issue, as our target depth was 120 cm, and the rocky soil would drastically increase costs and extend timelines. Recognizing the impact, I immediately informed stakeholders, presenting a solution to mitigate costs, but with a new timeline: Instead of two separate routes, I proposed integrating both into a single route with separate pipes, ensuring functional separation while optimizing resources. The stakeholders approved the revised plan, and the results were good. The project not only stayed on track but also achieved a 15% reduction in the overall budget. Note: The survey was conducted by a company from the stakeholders' side As a Project Manager, I'd like to listen to your opinions and solutions if you faced a similar issue!
