Went to #IndiaMobileCongress 2024 on the first day and it was a spectacular display of innovation in technology. The sheer ingenuity of ideas that I saw had me dumbstruck. I would definitely recommend all the tech enthusiasts to take out time today or tomorrow and visit if they: - Want to see what giants like Airtel, Jio, Tata etc are coming up with in telecom and cloud services and how these innovations are being applied in defense, education, governance and other sectors - Understand how the government is integrating new technological innovations and what is their futuristic vision for the country - Understand the evolving role of #AI (not just Generative AI) and how the new startups are going to harness it's potential to solve complex problems PS: I also went there to see the newly built Pragati Maidan. At IMC 2024, Akash M. Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, emphasized the pivotal role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in achieving India’s vision of becoming a developed nation, or Viksit Bharat, by 2047. He highlighted AI’s transformative potential, suggesting that it could make India a global hub for manufacturing and services. Ambani stressed that India must urgently adopt AI through a holistic strategy aligned with the principles of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). He recommended two key actions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi: First, India should embrace AI to drive productivity and growth across all sectors. Second, the government should update the 2020 data centre policy to ensure that Indian data stays within domestic data centres. Ambani urged the government to offer incentives, especially for power consumption, to encourage companies to set up AI and machine learning (ML) infrastructure. Additionally, he emphasized AI’s role in revolutionizing small and medium enterprises (SMEs), positioning India as a modern factory and service centre for the world. India is like an elephant, it takes way too long to move direction. But, technology is the only thing that defies this behaviour. Jio took India’s internet penetration from 12% in 2015 to nearly 50% in 2023 - 900mn mobile internet users by 2025. UPI is making a “price sensitive” market spend more. 70% of online shoppers come from Tier 2+ cities. 100mn e-retail shoppers were added over the last 3 years. (that is more than Germany’s population, phew!) Technology creates fly wheels that make things move with exponential velocity.
