Texas faces a growing epidemic of drug addiction and overdose deaths. Alarmingly, the state experienced a dramatic 66% increase in drug overdose death rates between 2011 and 2021. This rise led to a total of 2,770 deaths in 2021 alone. Texas also has an extremely high opioid overdose death rate of 24.7 per 1000 people, compared to the national average of 9.4. San Antonio faces an even more critical situation with the highest drug use rate in South Texas. These stats underscore the importance of addressing the challenges that hinder effective addiction recovery. At Ripple Ranch Recovery Center, we're here to change these statistics and create a healthier community — one individual at a time. Does Sarah think she's a radical? That gosh she's stumbled upon a new way forward? It's a disease It's not my fault It's treatable They're experts ... Making it welcoming isn't going to do much - you don't appear to understand that it has to be something wanted! What is it they can't accept - I'd question how person centred it could be when they refuse to accept what is often our truth .... This is addiction centred for them - as long as there is an insistent objective to make users stop using ... It's going to continue to fail. Is it a disease or a disorder and do you not have to be able to evidence a disease if you think you can treat it? Doesn't the treatment have to work? How many times can they try to repackage the same tired response - your refusal to accept - it just may not be wanted or may be wanted in a limited way for a limited substance- is a disorder that's a disease but it's not your fault and its treatable - I refuse to believe im wrong disorder disease addiction. Don't worry there is a cure. Just like you - I must be right because I think I am even though I can't prove I am. I think the step Sarah means is the 12 steps from the room in the church or community centre to the medical setting.
Making treatment welcoming & available across all medical settings is a needed step to ensure access to high quality, person-centered addiction treatment at any touchpoint with the healthcare system. We are working to do just that at @MassGenBrigham https://lnkd.in/eFrTNH7P

Millions of Americans are addicted to drugs or alcohol, and millions more struggle with an addicted family member or friend. Addiction isn't just an individual struggle; it affects entire families, damaging relationships and creating financial stress. A recent poll highlights that many people aren't getting the help they need, and families are deeply concerned about overdose risks, particularly with potent drugs like fentanyl. On a positive note, more doctors are addressing the dangers of prescription opioids and offering alternative pain management options. Source: KFF Poll, Aug. 15, 2023 At Pathroot, we're dedicated to supporting families impacted by addiction. We're committed to providing accessible, quality resources and access to services.
