There's a reason we call it a "birds eye view" or "10,000 foot view." It's because when zooming way out, we see so much more. The thing is, when we are in the mix of things, we don't get this perspective at all. Just think about the last time you were lost in a city. There were so many ways to go, big buildings all around you, and probably most every street looked the same. Then, when you looked at the map on your phone.... ....which, in effect, is this birds-eye view you can hold in your hand.... ....and it showed you exactly where to go.... ...everything was fine. When it comes to everyday life, when we're in the mix of things... ...it can be like getting lost in the city. And when we take time away from the grind... ...then we get the overview we need to make sure our leadership... ...and our life... ...is going in the right direction. Take some time over the holidays to do this for yourself. Just go and sit and contemplate. Maybe draw a picture. Or journal. And get some perspective on your own journey. Where have you been this last year? Where do you WANT to go next year? And what's going to get you there? Speaking of stepping back and reflecting... ...this is the last hack you'll see from me in the next few weeks... ...as I'm taking my own time to reflect. (And relax. And eat.
