Robust and direct exchanges on #A14, #A12 and #OrwellBridge dominated yesterday's Suffolk Chamber of Commerce #Transport & #Infrastructure Group attended by Steven Thulborn of National Highways and Graeme Mateer from Suffolk County Council. Thanks to both and to the five #Suffolk #MPs who attended - never had that level of #Parliamentary turnout before! Also, good to catch up with Jack Abbott this morning to further underscore some of the imperatives raised by #businesses We'll be issuing a media release in the next few days, but here are the topline actions over the short-term: * MPs to challenge Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom regarding the opportunity cost of National Highways not deploying traffic officers during major incidents along the #A14 * Better information exchange between National Highways and Suffolk County Council and Suffolk Constabulary regarding planned and reactionary Bridge maintenance inspections (and hence preparedness should a lane need to be closed, for example) * The #Ipswich Transport Taskforce’s future remit should be refocussed on the wider roads system to include the Bridge Stephen Britt John Dugmore Ashley Shorey-Mills Amanda Ankin Lyndsey Hunt-Slade Paul West Jennifer Riddell-Carpenter Patrick Spencer MP Jess Asato MP Miles Vartan

Such a critical piece of infrastructure not only to TN and AR, but to our nation. Supply chains across the nation depend on the I-55 bridge which connects to Memphis- one of nation’s largest multimodal freight hubs.
NEW VIDEO: The 75-year-old Interstate 55 bridge, one of only two highway crossings in Memphis over the Mississippi River, is getting a major upgrade, thanks to a $394 million grant, announced by FHWA Administrator Shailen Bhatt to Tennessee Department of Transportation. #BipartisianInfrastructureLaw #InvestingInAmerica

This new ruling on eligible expenses for FHWA planning funds is great for those that choose to be proactive in their multi-modal planning. The operative word used is “CAN” be used. Until their is peer pressure or requirements then smaller MSAs will not have the resources to plan for the near and far future.
FHWA has clarified that State and Metropolitan Planning Funds can be used for Complete Streets planning activities without the need to match with non-Federal funds -- and that this waiver applies beyond the required spending on these activities under BIL. Hard to get that all in one sentence, but State and MPO planners may want to read on: https://lnkd.in/eCk6Hks3 FHWA encourages States and communities to adopt and implement Complete Streets policies that prioritize the safety of all users in transportation network planning, design, construction, and operations.

The true transportation deficit in Maryland is a much larger “pothole” than officials care to admit. They have shared the $3 billion CTP number, but that only includes the roadway capacity they cut from the program. It does not include the $6 billion in roadway maintenance (state of good repair, or SoGR) left undone over 10 years, or the $5 billion in local road funding cut from Highway User Revenue over 15 years. #LetFactsGovern #LEAVENOmOdEBEHIND

🚧 Old Grey Runway Test: Wisley Airfield as case study for Labour's Planning Reforms 👷♂️ Robert Colvile's recent analysis in The Sunday Times offers a compelling look at the Government's evolving stance on planning and housing. Living just 10 miles from the proposed Wisley Airfield development, I find this local test case particularly intriguing as a reflection of broader national reforms. 👷♀️ If you're interested in how this may shape the future of planning, I highly recommend giving it a (£wall) read: https://lnkd.in/ep5xXrQV. A glimpse into what's ahead for housing and infrastructure. #planningreform #housebuilding #greenbelt #greybelt #housingshortages #surrey #newgovernment #publicaffairs #development #publicrelations #infrastructureneeds #politics
