Ever met someone whose eyes light up when they talk about their work? (that’s when you know they’ve found their calling). It’s not about the paycheck or the fancy title, it’s about a passion for what they're doing. The most successful people are the ones who feel deeply connected to what they do. Their energy, ideas, and enthusiasm are contagious. But here's the truth - if your work doesn’t make your eyes light up, something’s missing. Maybe it's time to ask yourself: - Am I chasing the wrong things? - Am I aligning with what really drives me? In my experience, when you find that spark, it changes everything - not just your work, but your entire life. When someone is aligned with their purpose, their enthusiasm isn’t just visible in their output, it shines through in every conversation, every challenge, every new idea. You can tell when they’ve found their “vocation” because it energizes them. And that energy is magnetic. When you meet people, do their eyes reflect passion - or just obligation? p.s - hire those whose eyes light up when they talk about their work, and they’ll light up your entire team.

  • You need not see what someone is doing to know if
it's their vocation,

you have only to
watch their eyes.

Heard this W.H. Auden quote? I first read it in the book Drive by Dan Pink (grab my book notes) https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/grab-my-book-notes-from-drive-daniel-pink-richard-washington--cgtlc/?trackingId=VajK%2BZTjSbmBqp2yTneX9Q%3D%3D

Ahhhh Richard I love this post! You know you're onto something and found your "thing" when you're energized and in "the flow". The cool thing that I've learned is passion frequently follows action. I've found passion in things I never would have dreamed of because I dove into learning new skills.

That's so true. I always reflect on the questions: "What do I really want? What am I actually after here?". Another very transformative book on this topic was mastery from Robert Greene. Would really recommend to those who are looking to find their calling.

That internal passion comes through the gateway to the soul - the eyes.

I agree Richard Washington ✅️ You can also hear it in their voice, by simply asking them, "What do you do?"
