Rewriting Earth’s Post

Rewriting Earth reposted this

The best way to reach people who are not engaged with climate issues? This might not be the answer you’d expect from Christiana Figueres, Tom Rivett-Carnac and Paul Dickinson but it might just be COMICS 💥 This week on the podcast we are talking to Paul Goodenough, Co-Founder of the BRILLIANT Rewriting Earth. If you haven’t come across it yet, it’s a global collaboration of influential storytellers creating funny, relatable, emotional comics to communicate the most pressing issues of our time 💥 Do not miss tomorrow’s episode (dropping in your feed first thing Thursday 18 April) - also funny, relatable, emotional and pressing! Let us know in the comments which of these comics is your favorite - or if you just can’t choose because you love them all too much 🤷🏻♀️ 💚 Fashion Show by @war.and.peas 💚 Dinosaurs by @dinosaurcouch 💚 Overconsuming by @justcomics_official 💚 Worried by @anxious.animals 💚 Earth to humans by @dami_lee (Head over to Instagram to check out more work from these amazing artists)

Thank you so much, to you all, for not only listening to how we try and do our part in getting the general public to care. It's not easy, and sometimes it's not fun - but being on your show, and us all working together - is just the shot in the arm I needed this week. Lots of love. You're amazing! xx

Love all these cartoons and so glad to know about Rewilding Earth. We need more creativity for our messages to break through.

I love the idea of using comics to communicate issues such as climate change! Comics use humor, satire, and simple ideas to communicate issues that many people think are complex. It's a very different approach than the graphs, numbers, and niche jargon that are typically used to inform people about climate issues. All of these are great, but I think my favorite is the dinosaur comic. People have known about the impacts of climate change for decades, yet emissions continue to rise. We are constantly preparing for potential catastrophes, which may never happen. We know humans are contributing to climate change, and we know many solutions that could address it today.

These comics are so achingly true. The power of storytelling, in all its forms, is really an underused lever to shift complaceny into action and despair to hope. Bravo Rewriting Earth!
