The new Standards are coming next year, and let’s be honest—waiting until the last minute just isn’t an option. If RTOs want to transition smoothly and avoid a scramble, now’s the time to get ahead of the game. Preparation doesn’t have to be overwhelming; it’s about breaking things down and taking practical steps now to be ready. First off, start by diving into the new Outcome Standards and identify what’s changing. Look at each area—training and assessment, student support, workforce requirements, and governance. Then, take an honest look at your current practices and pinpoint any gaps. Where do you already meet the mark? Where might you need to adapt? Once you have a clear picture, prioritize your action items. Small, steady changes over time make a big difference, and they’ll help you stay on track without disrupting your day-to-day. It’s also a great time to engage your team. Getting everyone on board early means the changes won’t just be compliant—they’ll be part of the culture. The bottom line? The new Standards are an opportunity to enhance the quality and integrity of our training. By planning ahead, we’re not just meeting expectations; we’re setting ourselves up to thrive. Let’s take the initiative now, so come next year, we’re ready to hit the ground running. Helping businesses achieve quality outcomes for their clients. One of the biggest challenges for any L&D department is moving away from a reactive towards a proactive approach and an impacting strategy. Here’s how they differ and how you can become more impactful: With a reactive approach we’re always on the back foot and can barely, if ever, move beyond order-taking with little chance of making more than a modicum of impact. It feels like we’re in perpetual fire-fighting mode with needs leaping out, surprising us and overwhelming our team. We’re always hoping to turn a corner where things will become easier and more predictable. But it won’t unless we mature our approaches and our strategy. A proactive approach means we have some foundations and go to solutions. The first step towards this is having a course curriculum, platform and library of content but the limitations of these are exposed when needs require a defined outcome - performance enhancement and employees ready for other roles. Planning for the desired impact requires another level of maturity in team identity (what we stand for), consulting and analysis, design and deployment, measurement and iteration. And it all starts with a recognition that being reactive is exhausting and unsustainable and simply being proactive (with a suite of plausible solutions) is not enough any more - if it ever was. Being impactful starts with a desire and a willingness to move beyond the provision of learning to being more connected to our business and stakeholders. Seeing value in measurable terms and holding ourselves accountable for that. What are those measures? These are whatever is important to our senior stakeholders, such as: performance, job satisfaction, retention of talent, internal mobility, etc. You’ll know better than me for your organisation. *** I’m in the process of building an L&D Maturity Model. It’ll provide a roadmap and KPIs for L&D teams trying to progress into different levels of maturity. I’ll be sharing more as I continue to build it over the coming weeks with the 360Learning team. Follow me to get an inside look and be the first to know when it’s released.

Want to connect strategy to execution? It’s helpful if your strategy is expressed as measurable outcomes (OKRs). A great approach to connecting strategy to execution involves structuring outcomes at different levels to ensure alignment and agility. 1. Focus on just a few key multi-year outcomes as your strategic direction. 2. Break these down into annual outcomes that guide your yearly focus. 3. For quarterly OKRs, focus on testing outcome hypotheses through monthly experiments and daily user stories, aiming for frequent releases of value. Optimise for rapid feedback and learning, and focus on aligning efforts with strategic goals. Remember, OKRs should not be cascaded top-down but aligned bottom-up and top-down. Teams should refine their own outcomes in alignment with higher-level objectives, fostering both strategic and operational agility. "The training was really powerful in the way Outcome Alignment was covered - using it right away" – Course Attendee Want to improve your approach to Outcomes, explore OKRs and enable better strategic alignment? Join the next Patterns and Antipatterns course to learn practical practices for improving outcomes at every level." #BVSSH #BetterOutcomes #waysofworking #OKR

Day 6: Continuous Improvement - Enhancing Problem-Solving Through Reflection and Evaluation Today marks Day 6 of our "7-Day Series: Mastering Critical Thinking in Complex Problem-Solving." We explore the importance of reflection and evaluation in the problem-solving process, leveraging insights to continuously improve and innovate. Continuous Improvement: The Path to Excellence Continuous improvement is a cornerstone of effective problem-solving, enabling us to refine strategies, optimize processes, and adapt to changing circumstances. By embracing a culture of reflection and evaluation, we can identify areas for enhancement and drive ongoing innovation. Key Elements of Continuous Improvement 1. Reflective Practice: Take time to reflect on past experiences and outcomes, analyzing what worked well and areas for improvement. Reflective practice fosters self-awareness and insight, empowering us to learn from successes and setbacks alike. 2. Evaluation Frameworks: Establish evaluation frameworks to assess the effectiveness of problem-solving efforts and measure progress towards goals. Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track outcomes and identify areas of success and opportunity. 3. Iterative Feedback Loops: Incorporate feedback loops into problem-solving processes to gather insights from stakeholders and subject matter experts. Feedback provides valuable perspectives and ensures that solutions remain responsive to evolving needs and priorities 4. Continuous Learning: Cultivate a mindset of continuous learning and growth, seeking out opportunities to expand knowledge and skills. Stay abreast of emerging trends, best practices, and innovative approaches to problem-solving, leveraging insights to inform decision-making. The Power of Continuous Improvement By embracing continuous improvement, we can enhance problem-solving capabilities, drive innovation, and achieve sustainable success. Reflecting on past experiences, evaluating outcomes, and leveraging insights empower us to adapt, evolve, and thrive in complex and dynamic environments. Stay Tuned for Day 7! Today's SCN meeting was nothing short of spectacular. There is something to be said when you're in a meeting and NOT staring at the clock waiting for it to end. Right?? Stepping into the role of education chair, I led the charge with an exciting dive into our latest theme: "Scaling a Business." Faced with the absence of a speaker, I seized the moment to share my journey, unpacking the evolution of SOPs through my 20+ years in business. In a world where technology sprints ahead, keeping SOPs fresh is no small feat. Our game-changer? Focusing on the 'WHY' behind tasks to drive consistent results, no matter the method. This shift in strategy has turbocharged our efficiency, allowing my team to concentrate on what matters. Given the incredible engagement we had on this topic today, I thought it would be great to continue the conversation here. I'm eager to hear from you—how are you innovating your SOPs? What's working? What's not? Let's share our insights and push each other towards success! Thanks for being amazing everyone 🙌 Bernie DeSantis III William Streets Michael J. Mallon Jr. John Browning J. We live in a fast-paced world. It's good in some ways because we get to enjoy more comfort and speed but with every merit comes a demerit. The nature of our world demands that decisions are made quickly and this is especially true for those in management position: To navigate this intricate process with finesse, it’s essential to equip ourselves with robust decision-making frameworks. Here are four effective techniques we can use: 1. OODA Loop: Observe, Orient, Decide, Act. This technique provides a systematic approach to decision-making in complex and rapidly changing environments. 2. RPD Decision Model: Recognize, Predict, Decide. It offers a structured methodology particularly suited for proactive and strategic decision-making. 3. GROW: Goal, Reality, Options, Will. This technique is about establishing clear goals, assessing current realities, exploring diverse options, and committing to actionable steps. It fosters a holistic approach to decision-making. 4. PDSA Cycle: Plan, Do, Study, Act It drives continuous improvement and innovation and provides a structured approach for iterative decision-making and problem-solving. Incorporating these techniques into our decision-making processes will not only enhance our overall decision-making capabilities but will also empower us to navigate complexities with confidence and precision! #decisionmaking #JazIncorporated

In today’s environment, there is pressure to get things done quickly. When the timeline becomes the focal point, the easy route is often chosen. At first, the right way will probably take longer, get more pushback, and are likely to be challenged by “taskmasters". Understand the difference between easy vs. right. Three considerations: 1️⃣ Does the quality of the work match the importance of the desired outcome? 2️⃣ Do we have a full understanding of any unintended consequences? 3️⃣ Did we utilize a repeatable process? It takes what it takes. Choose accordingly.

The Vanguard Method of Systems Thinking has significantly shaped… …my approach to problem-solving. It emphasizes seeing the bigger picture, understanding systems holistically, and identifying root causes instead of reacting to symptoms. Key elements of the Vanguard Method include: • Customer-first perspective: Focus on the system’s purpose from the customer’s viewpoint. • Demand analysis: Identify value-adding work and eliminate inefficiencies. • System conditions: Recognize how design, measures, and management impact results. • End-to-end view: Understand the entire work flow to drive continuous improvement. Professionally: In my career, I’ve applied Systems Thinking to streamline processes, reduce failure demand, and improve customer satisfaction. It has also enhanced my approach to project management, helping me anticipate bottlenecks and ensure teams work cohesively toward long-term goals. Personally: Systems Thinking has helped me approach personal challenges with a balanced perspective, focusing on interconnections and long-term impacts. It’s not just about efficiency, but about creating lasting improvements in all areas of life. The Vanguard Method has taught me to step back, analyze systems, and make smarter, sustainable decisions. #SystemsThinking #VanguardMethod #ContinuousImprovement #Leadership #ProblemSolving #CreditRiskManagement #ProjectManagement #PersonalGrowth

(Continued from yesterday's post) Why didn't the business students win? Because they spent all their time engaged in a process called status management. They were more focused on asking themselves questions like -- 👉 Who is in charge? 👉 What are the rules? Instead of figuring out the solution, they spent all their time gauging the current situation. Their behaviors were inefficient, and hesitant with subtle competition. And, that's why they lost. P.S. From the book The Culture Code by Daniel Coyle #businessstudents #statusmanagement
