SOAPBOX ALERT!!! With ISC a few days out it is important to prioritize your focus for this event. Yes, it's awesome to reunite with peers in the industry, with your integrator partners that you work with every day, attend the speaking sessions and meetings you may have already scheduled... Let me just challenge you all: Take a few hours at ISC, get out of your comfort zone, and find THREE technologies or technology partners that can have an impact on your business after you leave Vegas. If you are charged with the safety and security of others, you have a responsibility to turn over all the rocks and dig into the details. Relationships are great and in many cases valuable, but they can also expose you a blind spot if you don't assess your current technologies against what is new in 2024 or technology you're not familiar with. Knowledge my friends is power, which leads me to this... If you are currently on an access control platform and you are not familiar with and/or using Wavelynx readers, you are proving my point above for me. Has your business been negatively affected because the product is not available? Does pricing fluctuate throughout the year? Do you understand prox technology? Do you understand your current smartcard technology and how the keysets work? Is your system proprietary, locking you into a small box of choices? Do you understand the difference between Wiegand and OSDP? Maybe it has not been important for you to be a technical expert on access control. Ok, got it--- but approving the revolving door of credential expenses each month, replacing readers that stopped working, and only focus on managing your access control platform will eventually expose the work you haven't done. We can fix that in 20 minutes and we can help you build a roadmap. I understand how valuable your time is, I've been there, but it is your responsibility to "know what you don't know" and also "trust but validate". Cityforum is convening a topical round table, 'The Private Security Sector in an Age of Threat', to be held in London on 5 December at the IET, Savoy Place.  In these tense and turbulent times, the contribution of private sector organisations to our safety, protection and resilience is of ever-increasing importance and the standards and quality of what the industry provides has never been more significant. The chair will be taken by The Hon Franklin Kramer of the Atlantic Council who is a leading thinker about the Sixth Domain. He is joined in the chair by Ms Isabel Hilton OBE, the distinguished journalist and expert on China.
