Yesterday I had to write a company policy on tackling modern slavery, as part of an ambitious contract tender, that Yesway Communications are going after. The organisation offering the contract also required potential suppliers to have completed the UK governments MSAT assessment. From a UK legal point of view MSAT assessment isn't mandatory for organisations with a turnover of less than £36 Million. My business certainly doesn't turn over £36 Million (I should of course add 'yet' #wink). But any business can do the assessment, whether they have been asked to, or not. Personally I would recommend the process, as it gets you thinking in terms of supply chains, recruitment, vulnerable groups etc. Its been a rewarding activity, and makes me even more thankful and grateful, for my life. As business people, we need to be vigilant to the welfare of our fellow humans, whether they work for us, or for a supplier to our business (located on the other side of the world). Have you investigated your supply chain, and how your suppliers operate their business? What safeguards do they operate, to ensure they are not contributing to modern slavery? I'll leave you with this to consider.... According to the UK agency concerned, it is estimated that there are between 10,000-13,000 people who are victims of modern slavery, IN THE UK! One of the attractive aspects of the work by the Human Systems Dynamic (HSD) Institute is the simplicity with which the organisation presents its purpose, intention and methodology. ⁉ What next for #CSDDD? Well, lots & lots & lots.... of guidance... 🗣 At a recent public event the European Commission outlined the plans for preparing & publishing the much anticipated guidelines for implementing #CSDDD 📝 To prepare these guidelines there will be (thankfully) public consultations as well as targeted outreach to ensure all sectors, groups, CSOs, regional voices etc are listened to & can input ✍ The guidelines do not need to be finalised until 2027 but given the hype around #CSDDD there's no time like the present to start this work 📝 Also note the need to develop the "Accompanying Measures" ahead of implementation 🗒 Summary as provided by European Commission below 👇 #CSDDD #corporateaccountability #transitionplanning #duediligence
