📣 NEW ANALYSIS: A country-specific look at mayors' priorities in 2024 💡 🌟 Did you know that one of Italian mayors' biggest challenges in 2024 was implementing big urban regeneration projects - significantly more than mayors in other EU countries. Or that German mayors' top challenge was dealing with public budget and administrative capacity - three times more than the average EU mayor. Despite often facing common challenges, national contexts still play a major role in shaping the priorities and strategies of European cities. 🔎 These are the insights from our latest analysis of the 2024 'Eurocities Pulse Mayors Survey,' which shows cities share common priorities, such as responding to climate change and tackling the housing crisis. But, as we examine the survey’s responses from mayors in major countries such as 🇩🇪 Germany, 🇮🇹 Italy, 🇪🇸 Spain and 🇫🇷 France, we see how these shared concerns manifest differently due to national conditions, political structures and urban histories. ➡️ For example, French mayors are frustrated by decentralisation, with 80% of mayors unhappy with their lack of budgetary autonomy. ➡️ In Spain, a country recently impacted by climate change, mayors are more concerned about the challenges this brings. 💡 However, while local context matters, there is a shared recognition among Europe’s mayors that working with the EU to address joint challenges is essential. The appointment of Raffaele Fitto, the first ever EU Executive Vice President in charge of cities, is an opportunity to ensure local and EU priorities and challenges are brought together. 🔗 Learn more about our analysis 👉 https://lnkd.in/epcnkPFR ANCI - Associazione nazionale Comuni italiani France urbaine Federación Española de Municipios y Provincias (FEMP) #EurocitiesPulse #TeamLocalEurope
