I have felt like it's the 1990's this week, unfortunately not because I've regained hair or a slimmer waist, but because I've been fully immersed most days discussing/learning even more about glazing & fenestration products! Not timber products like my formative years in those days, but top end premium quality aluminium doors and windows offered by our customer and partner Vial Doors and Windows, and their partnership with Alumil, focusing on their high end systems. In particular we've been 'benchmarking' the options for new customers such as Bespoke Frames Of Cheshire, and other prospective new partners in other parts of the country, against historical incumbent suppliers who've perhaps 'overspread' themselves, and made too many competitive options inadvertently reducing the commercial appeal to the very people who built it in the 1st place? Our model with Vial Doors and Windows is quite different, it's one of a very small select band of sales partners, who get premium products, great service, a differentiation V others and a commercial advantage. None of us are interested in a 'race to the bottom' or the 'commoditisation' of any such product, and whilst it's a cliched word, I can't emphasise enough that we're only interested in 'real' partnerships, such as those we've formed with George Theodoris and ANDREAS PAPADIMITRIOU in Greece, and Frazer Edis in the UK. So, when a customer requested a Blenheim surround in Lilac Viola marble, I had my doubts. Lilac Viola is a delicate stone, and its intricate veining meant there was a risk it wouldn’t hold up to our fine, detailed moulding featured in the Blenheim design. But that challenge also sparked a new approach: carving the entire surround from a solid block instead of the traditional fabrication method. 💎 There are both challenges and a benefit to using solid block: 💸 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀: Cost: Using a solid block is more material-intensive (and pricier) since much of the stone ends up hidden within the structure. Unpredictability: Blocks can contain hidden surprises—like an orange ferrous vein in this one (which we tied beautifully into the finished result). Working with slabs, you can plan around each vein and fossil; with blocks, it’s the stone’s natural beauty in its rawest form! ✨ 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁: Uniqueness: This piece is truly one-of-a-kind. Every vein flows seamlessly, creating an unmatched level of grandeur and cohesion. Even the the ferrous vein runs beautifully from the shelf through the header and into the surround opening. There’s no mistaking that this masterpiece was crafted from a single block!
