I have seen remote teams experiencing a higher rate of churn. You can understand why. People need a sense of belonging. And being far from HQ (in case of international teams) may breed a sense of isolation. What these teams need is an anchor - someone whose (part) of the job is to keep their morale up, and to ensure that they have a voice at headquarters. Building and maintaining morale is something that is important for any team, and in my experience it is doubly important when that team is remote and far-flung.
