I once impulse-bought a car off of someone's driveway with the goal of building a drift car. As a car guy with above-average knowledge, I should have taken the time to properly check the car for any surprises. The car started and it drove, that was good enough. Fast forward a couple of months, I had my surprise: The frame had so much rust that parts of the rails were missing. The car was sold to a scrap yard for pennies. Had I knelt down and visually checked the underside of the car on the seller's driveway, I could have saved thousands of dollars - not to mention months of planning and work.
