Meme coins on Solana have turned almost overnight into a money-printing business. Almost anyone can create a meme coin on Pump.fun. The profits of Pump.fun are skyrocketing, reportedly exceeding over $30 million in a week. So too are the profits for insiders who have the mixture of skills and luck to launch a meme coin that gains traction in the crypto community and captures price appreciation of anywhere from 5-100x in the span of a few days. Meme coins have a substantial rub: profits are elusive for those late to the game. When the music stops, the value of meme coins craters, and prices drop nearly as quickly as they rose. The meteoric rise of meme coins raises several critical questions for the next administration and interesting issues for defending any enforcement action in this space: 1.     Meme coins fall in the grey area under the current enforcement regime. An objective observer would be hard pressed to call a flash-in-the-pan meme coin a “security” under the Howey test. If so, the traditional tools to fight spoof and wash trading under Title 15 cannot be used to deter and punish what is likely widespread manipulative trading to “pump” the coin’s price. Similarly, meme coins escape easy classification as a commodity under the CEA. 2.     If meme coins exist in this limbo status, the only traditional tool to fight fraud in the space is the wire-fraud statute under Title 18. But this approach faces significant hurdles, particularly in identifying a critical false representation: what was falsely represented by whom and to whom? Most meme coins are created overnight and without traditional representations about anything to "investors." No one is claiming the book value of a meme coin is X or that it’s future cash-flow prospects are Y.    3.     Even if a wire-fraud case could be made, any case would run headlong into a serious conflict with caveat emptor. While it is black-letter law that the gullibility of a victim is no excuse for fraud, one could argue that construct should not apply to meme coins. Meme coins are more akin to lottery tickets than equities or really anything else in “tradfi.” Recognizing that an “investment” could go to zero at any moment is tantamount to table stakes. 4.     Given these challenges, it will be interesting if the new administration takes any enforcement action in this space. People lose money – lots of it – almost overnight. But does that factor alone justify enforcement, whether civil or criminal? If it does, can a meme-coin case prevail at trial?

After ceasing crypto payments in 2018, the firm recently re-entered the crypto space, piloting Twitter cryptocurrency payouts via Polygon in April. We sometimes forget that there's many people who aren't opposed to blockchain technology, they just aren't interested in the speculative casino. They see the benefit of useful applications for everyday life that are being built on-chain, like BitNote (think 1Password but fully decentralized) or the Really AR App (loyalty rewards for going to movies) or Mynaswap (shoe collecting and trading). The problem is, the steps to start using apps on a chain like Avalanche is just too much of hurdle. Go to Coinbase, convert to a token like AVAX, send to a wallet, bridge to Avalanche, then start using the app. Its a lot. But people know Stripe. They most likely have an account already. So now with just a few clicks, you can use Stripe to go directly to apps on Avalanche. Core wallet now lets you buy AVAX with Stripe, and then its automatically connected to Avalanche. GRIFFAIN founder’s meme coin BLINK surges above 200% in 24 hour trading Blinkdot, one of the Solana meme coins launched by the founder of AI agents platform GRIFFAIN, soared by 205% in the span of 24 hours. BLINK’s market cap has reached nearly $50 million. According to data from meme coin tracking platform GMGN.Ai, the Blinkdot token or BLINK soared as high as 205% in 24 hours of trading. The Solana  sol 3.21% Solana-based meme coin created by GRIFFAIN founder Elvin Ng is currently trading hands at $0.44. BLINK’s market cap briefly flirted with the $50 million threshold, reaching $49.2 million. Meanwhile, its liquidity has stayed consistent at $1.4 million. BLINK has a 24 hour trading volume and a fully diluted volume of $42.7 million. According to the market data on GMGN.Ai, there around 6,000 BLINK holders, with 21.1% of the token supply held by the top 10 holders in the community. Launched in June 2024, the Blinkdot meme coin was created with the purpose of providing with a new interactive way to communicate online using the coin’s unique “wink” feature. As the token features one lone eye with a green pupil, it is said to blink on X if the trader sets “Allow Solana actions on X” in their settings. Blink is one of the meme coins founded on GRIFFAIN, a platform that allows users to set up personal AI agents to manage digital assts. Though, it is currently limited to traders with early access or holders of Griffain’s Saga Genesis tokens. These tokens include Blink, Send and Griffain, which are already making waves in the crypto market. The importance of an open technology is that it gives room for new people to come in with new ideas. I made the switch to the bockchain industry because it was more exciting than what I would be doing in public health — I have the autonomy to solve live problems. When I got in—in 2022, I spent most of the time studying and trying to find a fix for every wrong thing: Luna crash? I thought a combination of programmable insurance governance logic plus decentralized lending (basically a non-custodial liquidity protocol with programmable governance) would help people get their money back on any loss— I slightly did something out of that just for fun. FTX? same. Bridge hacks? same (but I never knew why bridges were trusted though). Prices of NFTs going down and sales being unfair? Built 'Fairwheel' to sell NFTs with a blind auction mechanism. This summer, I decided to build a consumer application for the first time. And after few struggles at the account level, I was able to spot the exact problem facing the ability for useful apps built on the blockchain to even scale with ordinary users. I also wondered why nobody has even done it. I would later find out that nobody thought things could be fixed anymore at the base layer because ETH L1 is too slow — wild. And I know we can't keep having apps like stripe wrap our stablecoin experience forever. We also can't make ethereum the "world computer" by building just on financial rails or make L2s choose between independence and getting tied to shared bridges. So I realized we could just fix that at the account level—the key interface (from first principles) between users and the apps. As simple as it sounds, it's not so easy to build. But that is the biggest unlock we can ever come up with. Because solving that will: - help L2s choose independence if they want. - allow L2s to care for their ecosystem the more! not fighting for TVL everytime between the same set of people. - allow the "world computer" to scale beyond financial rails because blockchains are commitment engines that enable autonomous systems and machines. - remove ambiguity for users—no forceful seed phrases, no need to "connect wallet", no need to manually sign messages every time. - and much more. There's so many ways we can push this far. the account system needs a new operating system and I'm into that. Wish me luck 🤞.

What are you building this Summer? Wait... What even is the point of Coinbase's Global Onchain Summer Buildathon? (you didn't ask for this, but I'm telling you anyway) Well, Coinbase has one goal: Bring more people Onchain ⛓️ They're asking the question "Why aren't you Onchain?" ("Why don't you use cryptocurrencies already?") Let's ask 2021 Divine. Here's four reasons: 📚 Knowledge Gap. If I have to read a 10 minute article on Medium to understand what the Blockchain and Crypto is before using it, I simply won't use it. 💻 Technical Jargon. Many wallet creation processes involved concepts I did NOT want to have to learn just so I can create and fund some crypto wallet. 👥 Limited Acceptance & Utility Why should I use it if the major industries (e.g Food, Entertainment, Transportation) won't accept it as payment? 💢 High barrier for entry The entire wallet creation process was too complicated. Why do I need a seed phrase? Why is the app so hard to navigate? Why is it so technical? Why is it so slow? I just want to buy some Eth. (*cries) --- BONUS: 👨🏾💻 Scammers. A lot of them too. --- There's more reasons, a lot more, but I won't bore you with all that. The point is, getting into Web3 and the Blockchain is hard and unnecessarily complicated a lot of the time. Coinbase's mission is to find people that can simplify that for all of us. Through? Well, the Onchain Summer Buildathon. (simple enough?) This post is already kind of lengthy, so we'll stop there.
