I would like to share a new working paper on the measurement of companies' impact and success in 3GPP standards development. It is becoming increasingly popular to use the "approval" of companies' technical contributions (tdoc) to 3GPP as an indicator of companies' success or technological leadership. Using a comprehensive data analysis and a detailed case study, I show that this use of tdoc status information is often incorrect. I suggest other interpretations of the ‘status’ of companies’ contributions to 3GPP; and explore alternative methodologies for measuring companies’ impact in 3GPP. You can access the paper under the following link (and you may take a moment to explore our website): https://lnkd.in/dYc_Hz8W

Precision Time Net synchronization in focus at ISPCS 2024 in Tokyo The 2024 International IEEE Symposium on Precision Clock Synchronization (ISPCS) took place last week in Tokyo, Japan. The event brings together industry professionals, researchers, and practitioners to discuss the latest advancements in precision clock synchronization and distributed time-based applications, with a focus on cutting-edge technology like PTP and White Rabbit. Our partner, MARUBUN CORPORATION, was attending, celebrating their 180th anniversary. Congrats! ISPCS hosts a highly appreciated interoperability testbed called “ISPS Plugfest”. At this year’s Plugfest, four test stations were running continuously, each focusing on different synchronization profiles. These include Broadcast profiles (SMPTE 2059-2, AES67), Power Profile (IEEE C37.238, over Ethernet and PRP, and IEEE 802.1AS), Telecom Profiles (G8275.1 and G8275.2), and New Technologies. Of particular interest in New Technologies was the focus on Precision Time Network (PTN), which was tested alongside advanced options like the High Accuracy Profile, Wi-Fi, IEEE 1588-2019 options SdoID and AUTHENTICATION TLV. PTN plays a key role in enabling highly accurate and secure time synchronization across distributed networks, making it a significant highlight of this year’s technical developments. Our sync expert, Magnus Danielson, attended alongside with other field experts including key figures like Maciej Lipinski from CERN, one of the original designers of WR and Ahmad Byagowi from Meta. #ISPCS2024 #PrecisionTiming #PTP #WhiteRabbit #TimeSynchronization #TelecomTech #InnovativeNetworks https://2024.ispcs.org

Abdessamad El Moatamid, 3GPP CT3 Delegate, to speak at the 'CAPIF from Standards to Practice' webinar, looking at possible synergies and cooperation in the 3GPP, ETSI MEC and OpenCAPIF arenas. #5g #6g
CAPIF from Standards to Practice: Synergy between 3GPP, ETSI MEC and OpenCAPIF The webinar will provide a guide to the MEC Service API application enablement and its interworking with the Common API Framework (CAPIF) defined in 3GPP. The speakers, as key experts in the area, will present the latest achievements and alignments in standardization in ETSI and 3GPP. The webinar will also provide an overview of the recently established Software Development Group (SDG) in ETSI called OpenCAPIF, an important open-source initiative in the area, as complementary effort to standardization. Attendees will not only benefit from this comprehensive overview but will also have the chance to get (in the final Q&A session) technical insights both from standards and open-source software points of view. The webinar will be presented by: • Dario Sabella, ETSI ISG MEC Chair, Intel • Abdessamad El Moatamid, 3GPP CT3 Delegate, Huawei • Uwe Rauschenbach, ETSI ISG MEC Vice Chair, Nokia • David Artunedo, ETSI SDG OpenCAPIF Chair, Telefonica To register: https://lnkd.in/d_sTgV-7

Intent-driven management has been one of the key topics in recent mobile network standardization activities. Different standard development organizations (SDOs) tend to explore different aspects of it from different perspectives. Because of that, very often misalignment regarding certain concepts and terminologies take place. Sometimes these misalignments hinder the progress in the standardization activity in a grave manner. That is why, we from four different companies (Nokia, CMCC, Docomo and AT&T), which are directly involved in the standardization activities, came together to write a paper that highlights these discrepancies and explains the relationship among the key concepts. In a nutshell, the paper provides a comparative analysis of intent-driven management across three major SDOs: 3GPP SA5, O-RAN Alliance and TM Forum. The preprint is available now at the following link: https://lnkd.in/gmi8Qeu5 The paper has been submitted to IEEE Communication Standards Magazine. It was a great pleasure working with you all Stephen S. Mwanje, Refik Fatih Üstok, Ph.D., Lingli Deng and Ajay Rajkumar.
