In this Roundtable Spotlight, Jason Rostar, Associate Principal and Corporate Design Technology Leader at HED talks about his roundtable session, "Cultural Challenges of Change While Curating Curiosity". Many Architects and Engineers see 'BIM' as someone else's responsibility, often leading to specialized staff who support and manage project delivery. However, these silos are eroding a holistic approach to Architecture and Engineering. One result of these silos is the burnout that occurs from working without a broader and proper sense of purpose. Complicating matters, AE professionals are too easily distracted. There's a tendency to chase the latest 'shiny new toys'' such as generative AI, specialist rendering, and increasingly complex building forms. According to Rostar, there is a tendency to bypass a solid foundation in generalist BIM tools and workflow. Put another way, best to understand the rules before looking for exceptions. Ultimately, how does firm leadership inspire curiosity and accountability, while avoiding unnecessary burnout and distraction? Rostar doesn't have all the answers and he's looking forward to discussing with other industry peers. A discussion at a technology event not about technology - count me in!
