As the keynote speaker of the Technical session of the recently concluded 8th NE Green Summit at Itanagar, here are some of the conclusions I have drawn after participating in the event: 1. No matter how noble the idea behind the event, none of the discussions matter unless the policymakers and community leaders lend a patient ear to the domain experts, innovators and green tech entrepreneurs. 2. Cliché terms like attaining "Net Zero" or "Carbon Neutrality" are empty words unless providing definitive examples of technology or processes and their success stories along with the data. 3. Pickles and wine, no matter how good tasting, like cane baskets, no matter how intricately woven, are not examples of Innovation, Sustainability, Green-Tech or Circular Economy. 4. That some money has been raised by brick and mortar businesses masquerading as Startups, is neither an indicator of their success, the health of the ecosystem, nor commitment towards green tech or sustainability. 5. To the Pundits from Metropolises who love to "grace" such sessions as VIP Guests spouting drivel like "Oh, the North-east are the lungs of India," that we need to eat, sleep Bamboo and live in Bamboo Huts, or become completely organic, I will suggest they look around erstwhile lush hill stations like Shillong or Bomdila and decide which cancer has afflicted these lungs or to take a look at Sri Lanka and her organic experiment. (Regarding Bamboo, my team and I are designing and building advance Bamboo Biocomposite vessels like Trimarans and Catamarans, along with ultra light-weight and low-cost fishing and rescue boats. So, wanna make some Deep Impact Investment ??) Lastly, gauging by the photographs of me, that I seriously need to shed some weight. I think that is the most attainable short term sustainability goal I can strive for... #neindia #greensummit #sustainability #greentech #India #innovators

Supporting sustainable living 🌎 Meet Fredrik Ruud Kondrup CEO of Source For Future by Indo Naturals, an impact startup striving to make sustainable living accessible for all through quality plant-based products replacing everyday plastic consumables 👋 🇳🇴 What do you do? "My focus mainly goes into on-the-ground fair trade monitoring and impact assessment of our brand and B2B product sourcing solution. I have a degree in Economics and I'm passionate about working on products made from natural raw materials. I'm a Excel and research nerd when it comes to assessing social and environmental impact." 🇳🇴 Why did you start? "I've always been eager to start something positive for people and planet. However, after working on the plastic pollution issue at the Norwegian Consulate in Mumbai I found that India offers many exciting solutions to plastic products, that can be made in ways that empower people." 🇳🇴 How do you make change? "The hard truth is that most products on the market are made in ways that contribute to increased inequality and exploitation of people as well as environmental destruction. Through Indo Naturals I wish to give both consumers and other brands access to consume and source products that are fair trade and eco-concious. I believe all products should come with transparency and impact assessments." 🇳🇴 Finally, why should people volunteer for your startup? "Lets choose a market that gives us a future." This is called a true Bio-based sustainable economy ♻️ a concept called eco-design and a true steps towards sustainable industry 🏭 just look at each component of their manufacturing process from raw materials to in between production process (e.g. energy usage) to the end product with each steps 🪜 they were trying to employ sustainable solutions without compromising in either in the quality of products, economic viability for consumers as well as own startup and environmental footprint. A big salute to the CanvaLoop company 🈺 for presenting such a solution to society👥, now I can say yes from my India 🇮🇳 also such company and startups are emerging, can't wait to see and read more about its case study, LCA and its scale up. Sustainability VS Affordability: A Critical Challenge 🌱 Sustainability has become a buzzword in recent years, with governments and major organizations championing eco-friendly initiatives. But does pursuing sustainability always come with a higher price tag? 🌍💸 During a recent visit to an environment-friendly product exhibition, I was struck by the high cost of many sustainable products showcased by startups. This made me reflect on a critical issue: In a country like India, where nearly 28% of the population is middle class and a significant portion is lower class, can sustainable products ever be truly accessible? When sustainable basics like soaps or loofahs are priced at 2x the cost of their conventional counterparts, it raises a fundamental question—does pursuing sustainability inevitably mean higher costs? Is it possible to achieve a balance where sustainability and affordability go hand in hand?🌱 #Sustainability #Affordability #EcoFriendly #Innovation #SocialImpact #SustainableLiving

🌍 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐄-𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲 is here, and the numbers are staggering. In 2022 alone, 62 million tonnes of e-waste were produced. Yet, only 22.3% of this waste was properly recycled. That means $62 billion in recoverable resources were lost, while the demand for rare earth elements continues to rise, with only 1% being met through recycling. We are on track to hit 82 million tonnes by 2030, unless we act now. 🗣️ 🗺️ On this important day, we invite everyone to check out the WEEE Forum’s map to see who is taking action worldwide to tackle this growing problem. We're proud to see Minimise mentioned for their work in India. Plus, leading the way with their first whitepaper on unlocking the potential of India's informal waste sector (links in the comments). 📊 🌟 And they’re certainly not alone! We have more startups in our network working on this important issue. A shoutout goes out to: 🔄 Repair Circle, for connecting people with trusted local repair shops to reduce waste; 🛠️ FixFirst - The OS for Circular Services & Products, for making repair and reuse easy and accessible; 🌀 circulee, for equipping companies with green IT in an uncomplicated way. 9moSpot on bro... There's a 'green' caucus dancing Ring-a-Ring-a-Roses spouting same clichés. The corporates send the same fogeys (probably HR selects them on the basis of least competency most gas power) to do the rounds, unless the show has 'you-know-who' for selfie points. The HEIs (Higher Education Institutes) have their own caucus and totem pole ... And boy o boy, you have to see the priggish deference for those on the top who block any original R&D idea/effort for obvious reasons. Sustainable development is their stock phrase, with nil effort. Last but not the least are the Government puff-ups. They have their own totem pole. One set of Neanderthals from the twice-born I Am Sorry brigade, and the other primitives from the Janta Ka Sewak mafia. So, my friend Ravi J. Deka, now that you have managed to penetrate, do what the BSF motto says: Thrust hard and deep!
