French startup AQEMIA has raised $38M in a funding round led by Cathay Innovation, bringing total funding past $100M. Combining quantum-inspired physics and machine learning, Aqemia is revolutionizing drug discovery for oncology and immuno-oncology. Advemto’s unique optical technology could be as revolutionary for hi-plex biomarker mapping as low-cost DNA sequencing was for genomics. Pharmaceuticals companies, clinical diagnostics labs and research labs rely on fluorescent labels to map biomarkers associated with disease and treatments. But currently, significant time and money is wasted on iterative panel design and low throughput analysis, because current optical detectors cannot sufficiently distinguish or quantify mixtures of fluorescent labels. With this Seed investment, Advemto will build a new generation flow cytometer that incorporates its 2D barcode reader – making it possible to resolve panels of fluorescent labels, instantly, precisely, and quantitatively. NVelop Therapeutics and Chroma Medicines are merging, to form a new company nChroma Bio Leadership for the combined company argued it was a natural fit. In industry parlance, it joins a “delivery” company with a “cargo” company — fusing the two key pieces needed to build a genetic medicine. Yet it is also an abrupt turnabout for the companies, both of which were founded by elite academics and investors with grand ambitions. Chroma launched with a $125 million Series A in 2021. Nvelop raised an unusually large $100 million seed round in 2022.
