We're excited to share today's news and announcement of Assembly Ventures' newest portfolio company - Motmot. In addition to Assembly Ventures as the lead investor, the $1.34 million Pre-Seed round had additional participation from Michigan Rise, Kalamazoo Forward Ventures, and eLab Ventures. Motmot is a Detroit-based company dedicated to improving water infrastructure management through innovative autonomous technology. The team conducts research and development at University of Michigan and Michigan State University Labs, supported by resources from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and Newlab Detroit. This funding marks a critical milestone in the development of Motmot's Autonomous Underwater Robot (AUR) technology – a modern infrastructure tool designed to address the challenges of aging water main systems. The investment will support Motmot’s efforts to scale operations, expand re- search and development, and begin servicing municipal pilot programs in Summer 2025. Testing, Validating, and Moving Forward 🏁🏆 While many were celebrating Christmas, we Emotional Ideas, Inc. was focused on progress. I had the incredible opportunity to film two professional racers playtesting the TurboTron Battle Racing system. Watching their skills in action and hearing their feedback was inspiring—not only because they validated the potential of Battle Racing but also because they saw what this new motorsport could mean for the industry. This moment reminded me that breakthroughs don’t wait for perfect conditions or holidays. They happen when we stay committed, take risks, and invite others to experience what we’ve built. These racers didn’t just test the tech; they felt the vision behind it. Their insights have given me even more confidence that we’re onto something electrifying. This past fall, I had the opportunity to pitch AutoScape Robotics at the Launch NH 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁, backed by North Country Angels. As the winter season falls upon us with nearly 70% of the US landmass experiencing snow, here is why we believe that the solution to snow management is Automation. 1. 𝗗𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 – Autonomous solutions can provide up to 90% cost savings compared to conventional snow management solutions due to operational cost savings. Users will break even within one snow season. 2. 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 – many states have reported high labor shortages in snowplow fleet operators, as much as 30% smaller staff compared to pre-pandemic levels. This is even as the weather patterns get more unpredictable and erratic. The need for an additional workforce is only inevitable.  3. 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 – ultimately, our goal is to provide high accessibility to highway roads, sidewalks, and parking lots. No one should have to slow down because of snow events. This was a really unique opportunity to test our concept and business model in the minds of angel investors and entrepreneurs.
