Roderick, such a great call out. We've been seeing this disparity for years now, ever since great training was jettisoned from companies decades ago. I believe and see the tension is coming from balancing our near-term priorities with our long-time horizon visions. In addition to that is the people portion of the equation. Changing behavior takes time and patience. Helping someone learn something new takes time. Reinforcement takes time. Accountability takes effort. One and done feels like we're making progress. Continual improvement feels nebulous and like we're not progressing. And that ties to accomplishing near term milestones while balancing far term goals. The analogy is going to the gym, working out, starting a new diet plan to get healthy. The best way to affect big change is through micro-steps. Replace one soda with water. One big heavy meal with a salad. Replace a nap with a 20-minute power walk. Small changes lead to big impact. Same with our competency mapping and skills matrix. Creating a comprehensive program for your team is absolutely a herculean task. Implementing it doesn't have to be. And more importantly, our teams and people WANT to get better and CRAVE effective leadership. Thank you for putting this out there!

Here is when you need to set #expectations with your team members: ➡ Whenever you start as a new manager (Make sure you wait a few weeks to understand the team, situation, your targets, the organization's direction, etc.) ➡ When onboarding new team members. ➡ At the beginning of each year to align with the organisation's and personal goals. ➡ Regularly throughout the year to adapt to changes. (There will always be changes !!! 😅)
