This was an interesting read and certainly an interesting time in politics. The ostensible basis for democratic governance is the idea that voting represents an accurate picture of the will of the people. The tactics the democrats used to win 2020, and seem to be using in 2024, will lead to effective mass disenfranchisement and consequently cause the federal government to have a legitimacy crisis. What are your thoughts on this? #politics #democrats #Vote2024 #WeThePeople

Great piece Jared Alper! Indeed, #Independents are Rising! I'm not a closet R or D, and I reject the terrible choices offered by our binary duopoly. The self-serving political industry loves to hate on us, or act like we don't exist. Here is a short sample of some of the names states (or the industry) give to independent #voters: Declined to state (DTS), No party affiliation (NPA), No party preference (NPP), Nonpartisan, Unaffiliated and "double haters." Over 27 MIL Independent Voters cannot even vote in their own PUBLIC, taxpayer-funded closed primary #elections. Where's the moral outrage around this blatant #taxationwithoutrepresentation? No outrage because the politics industry has poisoned far too many. City by City, State by State, we will continue our mission to #LetAllVotersVote / #LetAllVeteransVote ... #LetUsVote!
What will the parties do as more and more voters go independent?

The United States is one of the largest and most diverse countries in the world. Every four years, most Americans feel they don't have much choice when it comes to who sits in the White House. Why? Our “choose-one” elections simply can’t handle additional candidates. Third-party and independent presidential candidates risk “spoiling” the election and allowing one of the major candidates to win with less than a majority of the public's vote. It doesn’t have to be this way. Andrew Yang gets it right in Newsweek: “We can keep doing nothing about spoilers and hoping for different results. Or we can make room for more serious candidates, protect majority winners, and give Americans real choices with #RankedChoiceVoting.”

Friends: After an interesting #ElectionNight, today's word should be perspective - meaning, how should those who "won" and "lost" put last night's win into context? Elections are one of the greatest gifts that democracies give their citizens - they can " correct" what's not going well or "amplify" what is going right for elected officials. Last night was a change election. Voters across the United States were not happy with the previous four years of the #BidenHarris administration, and they literally "threw the bums out." #Change occurred not just at the presidential level but across the board - with the #GOP picking up enough #Senate seats to capture not just a small but a durable majority that will make #DonaldTrump's life much easier when he assumes office in January. And, #voters also rewarded him by apparently returning a #GOP #House - which offers Republicans the ability to do #reconciliation in 2025. For my #Democrat friends, all election losses hurt, but some more than others. The Party will need to do an autopsy of what went right and, more importantly, what went wrong. What is evident is that even with a highly vulnerable GOP candidate, the strategy, messaging, and issue-set pursued by the Party "elite" was woefully inadequate. Furthermore, the #media still doesn't know (or doesn't care to know) how to cover #conservatives - candidates or issues. The mainstream media's liberal bias is becoming increasingly irrelevant to everyday voters and non-traditional media (blogs, self-published content) is leveling the playing field as a way to distribute messaging. Lots to chew on here, but America's democracy is durable. Yesterday's election wasn't "existential," and while it may seem the case today, Nov. 5 wasn't "the most important election of our lifetime." America's grand experiment with democracy - almost 250 years old - will continue, and #Democrats will have their day in the sun at some point in the future - two, four, or six years from now. #Perspective is key. What do you think?

Thoughts on the #US coming #presidential election; The #Democratic #Dilemma The #Democrats are at a crossroads, President #Biden 's memory lapses have led to growing calls from prominent Democrats and the donors for him to step down. This has caused a lot of division in the party. However, the questions to be posed are; Five (5) months into the election, which presumptive democratic presidential candidate has the political clout and a winning chance against fmr. President #Trump in the forthcoming election? Can VP Harris be the presumptive nominee or would she be passed over should President Biden drop out from the race? Who will be the VP pick for the Democrats? Can the former Governor of California Gavin Newsom rise to the occasion? Is the US ready to elect the first woman (of colour) as the President of the United States? As it stands, if the election were held today, I don't see the possibility of Democrats winning because the party is divided, and with the power of incumbency at stake, finding a winning team for the Democrats in the coming election will be slim but politics can string up surprises!

Democrats anxious as Trump gains ground in tight race —— Democrats are increasingly anxious as former President Trump gains ground in the latest polls, tightening what was expected to be a straightforward race. With voters expressing frustration over key issues like the economy and immigration, both parties are doubling down on strategies to sway undecided voters. As the race intensifies, Democrats face pressure to energize their base and draw in swing votes. —— Visit the link in our bio. This is an excellent article highlighting why we need to do the work to reform our (small-d) democratic infrastructure. To quote the op-ed "The way we conduct primary elections in our country is outdated, exclusionary and leads to a Congress and state legislatures that represent smaller and smaller bands of partisans, not the broad electorate." I'll add that it also gives more power to parties than to either elected officials or voters. The above call to action applies to all of us. If you happen to be a #veteran, check out Eric Bronner's organization Veterans for All Voters for immediate ways to get involved!
Would you like to elect more common sense, problem solving leaders? Then we need better, common sense #elections. Please read the op-ed below! BOTH major political parties oppose our efforts to give ALL voters more power through more open, inclusive and competitive elections. From John & Jeremy's op-ed ... "The way we conduct primary elections in our country is outdated, exclusionary and leads to a Congress and state legislatures that represent smaller and smaller bands of partisans, not the broad electorate." Our political operating system is in desperate need of upgrading. The current system doesn't reward common sense problem solvers, it rewards the most extreme and divisive actors. It rewards stalemate and the status quo and an entire "politics industry" that can make more $$$ by NOT solving problems, and blaming everything on "the other side." I'm proud to call John Opdycke and Jeremy Gruber friends. They are fellow reform warriors who have been on this mission for much longer than me. They care deeply about our country and the millions of voters who are exhausted with or disenfranchised by our current system. If you want more common sense leaders, join us at Veterans for All Voters and Open Primaries as we continue building a movement for more open, inclusive and common sense elections. Onward!
