While nuclear power plants are still being decommissioned, there’s an increased demand for baseload power and emissions-free energy, leading to a slew of restarts of idle units. My FTI Consulting colleague Steve Everley shares with POWER magazine the key factors driving the restarts, including: - Rapid load growth to accommodate demands such as data centers, hashtag#AI, advanced manufacturing, and electrification efforts. - Climate policy, specifically aggressive emissions reduction targets, demanding more emissions free baseload power, and outpacing what wind and solar can supply. The British journey to repurpose and clean former coal sites using plug-in nuclear power has taken an electrifying leap forward thanks to a US company! Last Energy is set to transform the historic Llynfi Power Station, which once housed 4x 30-MW coal units from 1951 to 1977. This ambitious project aims to deliver 80 MWe of clean, reliable baseload power to local industries, with the first power set for delivery by 2027. By choosing the site of a former coal-fired power station, Last Energy is not only repurposing existing infrastructure but also symbolically transitioning from fossil fuels to clean energy, promising a future of carbon-free power and supporting regional economic growth and energy resilience. The potential of nuclear microreactors to provide stable, continuous power is monumental, ensuring grid stability and fueling industrial growth. The collaboration with local stakeholders and the focus on industrial customers highlight a strategic alignment with regional energy needs. And here’s the clincher: unlike other clean energy projects, this one won't rely on taxpayer money, showcasing how nuclear energy is economically sustainable from day one. The excitement is palpable as we witness this transformative power in action!

https://lnkd.in/eQzdD22u #Biden administration sets plan to triple #US #nuclearenergy capacity by 2050 The road map aims for 200 GW of net new capacity from newly built reactors. What is #Australia’s nuclear power future? Let’s have a look at the comparison between the US and Australian #energyresources currently: US energy resource: #Naturalgas: 31.8%, #Petroleum /oil: 28%, #Coal: 17.8%, #Renewableenergy: 12.7%. Australia energy resource: Natural gas: 17%, Petroleum/oil: 2%, Coal: 46% Renewable energy: 35%. It shows that Australia has outperformed the US in renewable energy, and we welcome the US is pursuing a policy to catch up with its renewable energy commitment to the #globaltarget. However, Australian government should be cautious and not simply follow the US's lead in adopting large-scale #nuclearpower. Our energy #policy must prevent additional financial burdens on our nation and its citizens. #DemocracyFirst

Great piece in the Times Union covering the #upstate nuclear fleet and how it's helping #NewYork meet its #climate objectives. “You’re going to need basically all the clean generation that you can get, whether it's nuclear, whether it's renewables, whether it's the new technologies that are yet to be innovated,” Barlette said. “You're going to need all hands at the table to try and solve this goal.” #cleanenergy #CLCPA #nuclear
New York State set the goal of an emissions-free grid by 2040, and it’s going to take all clean energy sources to get there. Responsible today for nearly half of the state’s carbon-free generation, our three upstate nuclear plants are poised to be part of the solution.

New York is a harbinger of the national clean energy transition: The state has set ambitious goals for getting to 100% carbon-free electricity. It has recognized that meeting those goals depends on continuing to run existing nuclear plants. And it has learned that when these reliable clean energy powerhouses shut down, carbon-emitting sources ramp up to meet demand.

Appears the new coming of age for nuclear power, and the push for Small Modular Reactor technology is gaining even more traction. When Amazon and Google realized the wind and solar energy option won’t necessarily cut it, they have upped their game. This is notable and reinforces the need to consider reliable power options that can easily tie into existing electrical grids, and have a relatively small footprint. Switching out say, coal fired power plants for SMRs is the obvious path forward. Due to the timelines and rigorous regulatory process involved, it will take time to design, assess, consultation, siting, construction, and commissioning of a new nuclear power plant. Thus the next 5-10 years will be interesting to watch as more of these energy options begin operating. Not every energy solution or need is the same, but finding the right longer term solution for your local is worth the time and “energy” to do it right. #energy#SMR#regulated

Build Fusion energy generators Your talk as Nuclear (meaning only Fission) and fails to talk about fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M You are, as the nuclear fission industry is, ignorant of what's happening around you. Pull your uranium heads out, start adjusting your industry to fusion energy and start preparing to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. As it dawns on Earth like the sun. Great Headline Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an accelerated pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place," and merely a temporary industry globally. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk Commercial fusion electrical generation is a promising and innovative method of producing sustainable and clean energy. By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period. https://lnkd.in/gY9J3MQY Now see what news is happening in the Fusion industry in the world. https://lnkd.in/g9hMBD7a As fission trebles, fission fuel shortage is increasingly real, as linked below. https://lnkd.in/gze5rwpr
