There is no doubt that one topic continues to remain very much in vogue in the Communications industry: storytelling! It’s been called a strategic tool with “irresistible power” by Harvard Business Review. It’s something humans have been doing since they could first communicate so why has it become this year’s buzzword? In these days of tougher than ever working conditions, competition for attention and cynical audiences, it’s not enough to offer up facts about your company to prospective emoloyers or investors; or even to your own colleagues and peers. You need to be compelling, unforgettable, smart and magnetic. You need to have a good story! Which is why we run storytelling training programs at Connect. We are very aware of how strategic story telling can elevate your presentations and pitches. I had the pleasure of attending a lunch at The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce with guest speaker, Ronald Lam last week. It was wonderful hearing about Cathay’s success story; the new Three Runway System, the fact that they are training 5,000 new staff and flying to new destinations. However, the thing that fascinated me more about the talk was the fact that Ronald shared Cathay’s core values, culture and their 9 guiding principles. It became evident that Cathay Pacific recognise the worth of storytelling within the company culture and embrace it fully. It was most insightful receiving this ‘inside knowledge!’ Congrats on yet another successful “CEO 123 Tell Me More,’ HKGCC. I look forward to many more in 2025. #storytelling #connectcommunication
