🚀 Today, I want to dive into a lesson that struck a chord with me from a recent read by Ben Burns. It's all about the power of proof in our businesses. In the beginning of my journey, I resonated deeply with Joe's approach. Like many of us starting out, I was figuring things out as I went along, seeing the world through the lens of an amateur because, well, that's what I was. But as Ben Burns aptly illustrates, there's a better way. Enter Steve. Steve represents the end goal we all aspire to reach. He arrives prepared, armed with a portfolio bursting with evidence of his expertise and a confidence that's hard to ignore. As Ben Burns puts it, "Everything about Steve told me he could do the work. His equipment, his process, his knowledge… and his book. I had confidence that Steve could do the job well." But let's talk about the journey between Joe and Steve. It's not always easy. Wrestling with imposter syndrome and feeling unworthy are common obstacles along the way. Yet, it's essential to push through these doubts and strive towards becoming the Steve in our industries. Personally, I'm on a mission to make that transformation. Every day, I'm working towards providing concrete proof of the value I bring to the table. Whether it's through delivering exceptional results, sharing client success stories, or honing my craft, I'm committed to being the Steve in my industry. But here's the challenge – are you with me on this journey? Are you actively demonstrating your worth to your audience, or are you leaving them to fill in the blanks? Let's challenge ourselves to step up our game. Let's prove our worth, not just tell it. And let's start today. Drop a comment below and share your thoughts. How do you showcase your value to your clients? Let's learn from each other and level up together! 🚀 #ProveIt #LevelUp #Entrepreneurship
There’s something you might be taking for granted. And it could be holding you back in a major way. Last year, I wanted a fence built to keep my crazy chocolate lab in the backyard. I’m a pretty handy guy, but hauling cement and digging holes sounded like a terrible time. So I looked for someone to hire. Three contractors responded to my inquiries. The first guy, we’ll call him Joe, arrived in a little Honda Civic. He said hello and asked if I had a tape measure he could borrow: he’d forgotten his. I went and grabbed one, and we walked the backyard together. He jotted the measurements down on the back of an envelope, and promised to send over an estimate the next day. We shook hands, and he left. Two days later, a text message arrives from Joe. All it said was “Hey there, I can get that fence done for you for $6k. When do you want to start?” The second guy never showed up for our appointment. I hope he’s OK. The third guy, we’ll call him Steve, showed up in a shiny work truck full of tools and lumber. He introduced himself and handed me his business card. While his assistant ran out to get some measurements, we went over his book. His book was a three-ring binder full of pictures of fences, decks, patios, and landscaping his company had done. Each project had planning sketches, multiple pictures of the work, and a testimonial from his client. There were tons of projects in that book. By the time we arrived at the last laminated page in the binder, which included examples of fence styles, his assistant had finished. Within five minutes, he gave me a detailed estimate that included cost of materials, estimated time, and an outline of how he would handle all of the approvals for me. I was impressed. Steve’s estimate was for just north of $10k… double what Joe was asking for. I wrestled with this decision for days. But my thought process might surprise you. I wasn’t trying to decide between Joe and Steve. I was trying to justify spending ten thousand dollars on a fence… I wasn’t even considering Joe! Here's why: Everything about Steve told me he could do the work. His equipment, his process, his knowledge… and his book. I had confidence that Steve could do the job well. He proved it. It’s worth considering: are you closer to Joe or Steve? Are you proving that you can do the work? Is that proof convincing? Don’t take this for granted. In order for a client to consider you for the job, they have to understand what you do. And they need some assurance you can do this. You gotta prove it. And that proof has to be compelling. If you need to work on this, you’re not alone. We at The Futur need to get better at this. We get so many messages from people all over the world who we’ve helped. And we’re not great about sharing them. We’re working on it. Are you? If you’re growing a creative business, we can help you. And we'll prove it to you. Show up today, and we’ll show you some proof. Timing can make or break your business. How many times have you heard a client say, "We’ll think about it." ...only to never hear back? In roofing, the difference between closing & losing often comes down to: ➡️ Urgency Not pushy, manufactured urgency. Real urgency. Here’s how to create urgency without being pushy: 1️⃣ Highlight the Cost of Waiting: Show your clients how delayed decisions increase risks—like escalating repair costs or potential downtime. 2️⃣ Leverage Seasonal Pressure: Tie your proposal to time-sensitive factors. For example, “Let’s get this handled before winter weather causes further damage.” 3️⃣ Make the First Step Easy: Sometimes, clients hesitate because the process feels overwhelming. Offer low-commitment entry points to build momentum. We’ve seen operators turn "not now" into "let’s do this today" by mastering these simple techniques. Ready to turn stalled deals into signed contracts? Let's connect and I’ll share the urgency framework that’s changing the game for roofing professionals. Keep serving.
