The time that Charley and Frances become wedding crashers…🌀 In September 2004, amidst hurricane season, a Whitehall, Pennsylvania couple planned to get married in Florida. But their wedding dreams were dashed not once, but twice, by Hurricanes Charley and Frances. Hearing about the couple's unfortunate circumstances, a Fort Lauderdale hotel stepped in to help. The hotel threw the couple an all-expenses paid beach wedding for their closest friends and family. They also included a honeymoon suite. I was in attendance, alongside about a dozen local and national news outlets. This was my first taste of hotel PR and a story going viral. I was instantly hooked. Lessons in PR: Always look for the silver lining. Adversity can unveil opportunities to showcase your brand's values and earn widespread attention. Seize unexpected moments to tell your story. It might just capture the hearts of many. P.S. Hurricane Ivan also threatened the couple’s wedding plans but, luckily, third time’s a charm. What unexpected event turned into a PR opportunity for you? #PRStrategy #BrandStorytelling #CrisisManagement #ViralMoments #PublicRelations

"Let Me Help You"… "Thank You"… "I Got You"… "Be Safe"… "Take Care"… "God Bless You". These genuine and kind phrases, and so many more, were being shared on the regular while I put sandbags together with a bunch of strangers in preparation for the storm coming our way. No one knew each other’s names, but we knew what one another needed, and that was basic kindness, respect, and love as we all prepare for this storm. In some respects, we have little in common, but what we have in common - especially in this unified moment of preparation - is far more powerful than our differences. We all live in the same community, we all have a desire to be safe and prepared, we’re all experiencing the same challenges and concerns as this hurricane comes our way, and we’re all united in… A Common Cause. This genuine support and connection we all experienced during this simple act of bagging sand together is not very newsworthy, it’s not going to make many headlines, and there’s little chance this basic moment goes viral on social media. But I believe these moments happen way more than we’re led to believe. In fact, I think they happen all the time, in small and large communities, even when a storm’s not approaching. With this storm, we are praying and preparing because Milton is serious and it’s heading our way. With all that said, and sandbags done, let’s not wait for that storm - or the prep for the storm - to connect with others. Let’s share those words with honesty and sincerity on the daily, and be generous as we boldly remind one another, here in the Tampa/Bradenton/Sarasota region, or wherever you are, that there’s significance in genuine kindness, respect, and love, and there’s power in these words… “Let Me Help You” “Thank You” “I Got You” “Be Safe” “Take Care” “God Bless You” I pray for safety for all of us, always, because we all have… A Common Cause. #community #connection #respect #kindness #teamwork #safety #manateecounty

Have you ever found yourself in the midst of a storm, both literally and figuratively? I remember when our daughter was hospitalized for Pneumonia in a rural region in the Dominican Republic. As if that wasn't enough, we were also facing the threat of Hurricane Maria. We had to make the difficult decision to leave the country and ended up in South Florida, where the hurricane eventually hit. In times like these, it's easy to get overwhelmed by the noise, anxiety, and opinions of others. But I've learned that remaining calm in the storm is essential to navigating through challenges. It's about doing a self-check, staying focused, and taking one wise step at a time. During a recent event hosted by Maggy Antillon and Maria Figuereo with Realty of Chicago, I shared about how many women I know who successfully stay calm in the midst of the storm. They plow onwards in spite of having a myriad of storms they are battling both at home and at work. How do I managed to stay calm in the face of adversity? Instead of fretting, freezing, or fleeing, I chose to face the issue head on. By taking a moment to breathe, pray, and focus on the end goal, I was able to push through, take care of my daughter, be present at the engagements we had planned and overcome the obstacles in my path. So, how do you remain calm in the storms that come your way? Remember to stay grounded, keep your focus, and take one step at a time. #StayCalm #OvercomeAdversity #KeepFocused

Life can be stormy ⛈️ and uncertainty can cause massive anxiety. Making decisions becomes difficult, nothing seems clear. This has been my last 36 hours. This week is a BIG week with so many different things going on… 🌀 Hurricane Milton will 💯 hit FL, where exactly and what damage will it bring, TBD ✈️ I’m traveling today to CA to celebrate earning Sales Champion Wiiners Circle at Cisco. Truth be told, leaving during an impeding hurricane felt like an insane thing to do. I have never intentionally left my hubs, kids, and doggos behind to travel during hurricane prep days. My anxiety has been through the roof! 📚 A Return to Radiance officially releases tomorrow!! ✨✨ Instead of being home for the launch, I will be in CA. That totally messed with my brain too because I couldn’t originally see how I could do both - book launch and winners circle. 🎉 The book launch party is on Saturday. Storm willing, I get home Thursday night without issues. Friends and family are due to arrive Thursday and Friday so we shall see how all that goes! 🙏 PS. It’s a smaller party and invite only bcz I didn’t want set up and tear down so if you didn’t get an invite it’s not personal just doing something smaller and easier. There are more thoughts going through my head that have my emotions a little stormy ⛈️ 💯 Yet I know that I can choose to handle this with more ease and grace. I can use my breath to help calm my nervous system. One of the main things I teach is how to embrace the power of AND. Here’s a perfect moment to practice what I preach. 💕 I can enjoy sales champion winners circles AND be present for book launch week. 💕 I can be concerned about a hurricane coming in AND trust that my hubs and kids are capable of holding down fort and being safe. 💕 I can make hard decisions that put me outside my comfort zone AND still allow myself to feel anxiety about it. 💕 I can choose to feel all my feelings AND allow life to life. Something great could happen! 🙌 Not everything is always worst case. Send positive vibes my way! Again, it’s a BIG week. #SalesChampion #BookLaunch #Hurricane #WeCanDoHardThings #ThePowerOfAND

As you may know, we were supposed to have our Harp Mastery® Getaway Retreat a few weeks ago, but our plans were thwarted by Hurricane Milton. I am thankful that none of us, retreaters or staff, were stuck in the storm, and I’m especially grateful for all the expressions of concern for our safety. I have to say, however, that this experience left me a little gun shy, as far as retreat planning. Could I have foreseen this? How could I have been better prepared to pivot our plans on the fly? Obviously, I wasn’t responsible for the hurricane - even my husband hasn’t accused me of that! - but how do I go ahead with the next retreat with the same confidence that I had before the hurricane? Then, my inner coach came to the rescue with the obvious answer: I need to get right back on the horse! So with the assurance that February is NOT hurricane season in Florida, I would like to invite you to join us for the next Harp Mastery® Getaway Retreat, February 12 - 16, 2025 in sunny Kissimmee, near Orlando. Our Getaway theme is “Small Steps, Big Changes,” and our workshops will be aimed at showing you what micro adjustments you can make in your harp playing to get you the kind of progress you’ve been looking for. Learn more and register: https://lnkd.in/eZ-ZXqnu #harp #harpist #HarpMusic #HarpMusicRetreat #HarpLessons #HarpMastery

As we get into peak hurricane season, I wanted to point out some “not so obvious” mistakes when picking out a venue. If you aren’t from South Florida, and planning an event, training, customer visit etc , please take the below into consideration when choosing a venue. Too many people plan events in South Florida and do not live locally. Without the proper knowledge and research, your event could lack the attendance you hoped for. - locals HATE going to the beach during the summer (don’t plan anything on the beach if you want a good turnout) - Locals also hate going to the beach during peak travel season (Nov-Apr) due to tourists and traffic. This post is about hurricane season though. Just forget planning anything on the beach in general to be safe! lol - Research other events in the area happening on the same day to prevent overlap - Do not plan an outdoor event during the summer, or between the months of April - November. You’ll be gambling with weather - Keep venues centrally located and easy to get to (close to major highways, plenty of parking, less traffic to deal with, etc) - Pick a venue that has free self parking options. Hope this helps for my out of region connections! #TakeItFromALocal Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Hard Rock later this afternoon for the SoFloTechFriends quarterly happy hour! #SoFloTechFriends

As some of you know, Hurricane Beryl hit Houston on Monday morning. I have been without power ever since, to the writing of this post, using the date from my phone. After it made its way north after passing, I’ve had debris to clean up, which gave me the idea, to post on social media that I’ll clean up anyone’s yard for free as long as they are within a reasonable distance, and I did. Cleaned up multiple yards when the temperature was as high as 95° with a UV index as high as 10. Many of you would say why? Why don’t I leave town and go to a hotel like others I know? Why don’t I drive 2 hours to a place with power? Why did I spend 3 nights and counting sleeping in an 85°+ room? I helped. I love to help. A community is as strong as the people inside of it. Same applies to a company. A company is basically a community, things may go south in a company, unexpected problems or changes might happen within a company, but the company, business or organization is a community. Some people may run and quit to somewhere that’s not dealing with the weather or hardships. Some people may say “i don’t want to deal with this problem” when the problem is uncontrollable like how Covid made us self-distance. But for me, my values are to stay and help. Even in 95° weather, even in bad circumstances, even in uncontrollable circumstances, I’ll always try to help and do what I can for the community. I’m typing this from the data on my phone from an 83°+ room while I wait for the thunderstorm currently to pass. A community is not just where you live, it’s where you work, that’s why it applies. I enjoy helping and being a big part of my community. People need help and they may not ask, but I’m there.
