My first AWS re:Invent experience in Vegas was a blast! This week, I had the opportunity to represent Jefferies at AWS re:Invent 2024 alongside our CIO Vikram Dewan and his leadership team. As technologists passionate about driving innovation and harnessing the power of the latest technology capabilities, this event was transformative for us. From inspiring keynotes to hands-on workshops and networking with the brightest minds in the tech industry, every moment reinforced the importance of collaboration to reach limitless potential. Here are a few key takeaways from my experience: 1) Never Stop Innovating, Even Though It's Not Easy: AWS and many enterprise partner companies showcased groundbreaking solutions that are shaping the future of AI and computing. Companies must continuously reinvent themselves or risk falling behind. 2) A Vision for the Future: From gamified developer training to a new suite of Agentic AI models announced by several top tech players every single day this week, it’s clear that technology leaders need to keep learning daily to keep up with the latest forefront of the field, that’s the only path to develop future-proof strategies. 3) Build Faster and Cheaper: I shared my top wish with AWS leaders, emphasizing the need for solutions that enable us to build faster and cheaper. The potential is enormous, from AI-assisted coding tools to Zero-ETL integrations to business self-service analytics. A couple of fun facts I learned about this conference: - Over 75,000 people attended this year, a significant increase from the very first re:Invent in 2012 which had 6,000 attendees. - Most folks I spoke to average over 20,000 steps daily just to commute between different venues and sessions. Sneakers were our best friends! ❓Why is AWS hosting so many GenAI talks at re:Invent? 💡 It’s not just to highlight the latest tech. It’s a strategic move to attract business executives to what is typically a tech-heavy conference. ❓Why is this important? 💡 When the wider business is engaged, tech projects are more likely to get buy-in and stay funded. GenAI is grabbing the attention of business leaders because they recognize its dual potential—both as an opportunity and a competitive threat. ❓Why are tech sessions focused at MGM/Mandalay Bay and business ones at Venetian/Wynn? 💡 The Executive Summit is at Venetian, and Wynn is one of the priciest venues, making them natural hubs for decision-makers. Meanwhile, tech talks remain grounded in Mandalay Bay, where developers and engineers dive into the details. ❓So, why are executives flocking to GenAI talks? 💡 They’re hearing that Generative AI will impact their industry—sooner for some, later for others. Industry-specific sessions help them gauge the right time to react. And let’s face it, every GenAI discussion emphasizes the same foundation: you start with a data lake, and then go from there—just like with most cloud innovations. Yes, it’s a lot of walking between venues, but persuading business execs to attend your tech conference? That’s a win for everyone. Wondering how you can justify the cost of the tickets...for the tech team, not just the execs?!? Well that's where Strategic Blue can help...see you in Vegas, or DM me if you'd like to chat? #reinvent #AWSreinvent #AWSreinvent2024 https://lnkd.in/er9Q6NNe

Exciting day at the AWS Summit Innovation Day! Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosted a fantastic event, complete with the obligatory corporate cool-aid. Overall, it was a great experience. The standout keynote, for me, was Dominic Price, who shared insights in his talk titled 'A Modern Work Manifesto.' My reflections on his points below. 👇 1. Adaptability over Adherence: Balancing this can be challenging, especially when corporate values dictate practices. Sometimes, we lean too much towards adherence, which can stifle innovation and creativity. The process should serve the team, not the other way around. 2. Outcomes over Output: This classic principle remains true time and time again. This one reminds me of work from Teresa Torres in “Continous Discovery Havits”. 3. Context over Content: Context often gets overlooked in most organizations, often due to organisational silos. Understanding context leads to more efficient and effective problem-solving. The second session with Kate Gooden was on point. Kate was driving home the importance of experimentation as a foundational enabler for innovation. She also reminded me sometime you just need to walk the shop. Congrats on a successful summit 👏 #GenerationAI #AWSSummit Check out the link to Dominic’s blog on the Modern work manifesto here 👇 https://lnkd.in/g_swahqa
