Dubai is transforming its aviation landscape with a new $34.85 billion ( AED 128 billion) terminal at Dubai World Central - Al Maktoum International (DWC). Announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the project aims to make DWC the world's largest airport, accommodating 260 million passengers annually. Situated 20 miles southwest of downtown, DWC will eventually take over operations from Dubai International Airport (DXB), currently the second busiest globally. The new terminal will feature 400 gates and 5 parallel runways, covering an area five times the size of DXB. DWC will anchor Dubai South, a 145-square-kilometer urban development designed for one million residents and major logistics and air transport companies. The first phase, targeting 150 million passengers annually, is expected within a decade, with full development spanning several decades. #Dubai #Aviation #DWC #GlobalHub #AviationNews #FutureOfTravel #AlMaktoumInternational

✈️ The Evolution of Dubai Airport: A Journey of Transformation ✈️ From its humble beginnings to becoming one of the world's busiest airports, Dubai International Airport (DXB) has undergone a remarkable transformation. 1959: The vision began with Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who ordered the construction of an airport. By 1960, Dubai Airport opened with a compacted sand runway and a modest terminal. 1965: The airport saw its first major upgrade with a new asphalt runway and extended terminal, attracting more airlines and increasing connectivity. 1970s: The runway was extended to accommodate jumbo jets like the Boeing 747 and Concorde, marking Dubai's rise as a key refueling stop for long-haul flights. 1980s-1990s: Continuous upgrades in infrastructure, including new terminals and advanced navigational aids, positioned DXB as a major global hub. 2000s-Present: The airport expanded further with the opening of Terminal 3, dedicated to Emirates, and Concourse A, the world's first A380 facility. Today, DXB handles over 87 million passengers annually, connecting over 270 destinations worldwide. Dubai International Airport's journey is a testament to visionary leadership and relentless pursuit of excellence. It stands as a beacon of innovation and a gateway to the world. 🌍✨ #DubaiAirport #Aviation #Travel #Innovation #GlobalHub #DXB

On December 2, 1971, a bold vision was realised as six emirates came together to form the United Arab Emirates, with Ras Al Khaimah joining a year later. At the heart of this unity was Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a leader whose dream was not just to unite, but to create a nation rooted in harmony, progress, and sustainability. Sheikh Zayed's vision was simple yet profound: build a nation that preserves its heritage while embracing the future. He believed that the UAE’s strength lay in its unity, symbolised in the flag's four colors - courage, peace, hope, and strength. Today, as the flag flies high, it reminds us of the resilience and ambition that have guided this nation for 53 years. The UAE's journey is reflected in its landmarks. The Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, stands not only as an engineering marvel but as a testament to Sheikh Zayed’s belief that ambition has no limits. Yet, even amidst this progress, the UAE has never lost sight of its natural heritage. Its mangrove forests, nurtured and expanded, are living examples of Sheikh Zayed’s love for the environment, safeguarding biodiversity and ensuring a sustainable future for generations. Having witnessed 28 years of the last 53 first hand, I can only reflect with gratitude. With over 200 nationalities living and thriving together, the UAE has become a global beacon of cultural diversity. This harmony echoes Sheikh Zayed’s ethos of mutual respect and tolerance. Meanwhile, age-old traditions like falconry continue to be celebrated, reminding the world of the deep cultural roots that ground this modern nation. From launching world-class sustainability projects like Masdar City to becoming a global hub for innovation and connectivity with bustling airports like DXB and AUH, the UAE’s progress has been meteoric. But what truly sets the UAE apart is its commitment to balancing progress with its founding values. As fireworks light up the skies this National Day, we celebrate not just 53 years of growth but a legacy of staying true to the vision of Sheikh Zayed. The UAE's story is a reminder that when a nation holds fast to its roots while reaching for the stars, the possibilities are endless. #UAENationalDay #SpiritOfTheUnion #UAE53 #UAEUnity #ProudToBeUAE

#Dubai is set to double its passenger footprint and spend $52 billion on an ambitious #investment and expansion project. The new #InternationalAirport, DWC Dubai, will be built at the DWC site in south of Dubai and eventually replace #DXB. The $52 billion airport will be about five times the size of DXB in its current state, accommodating 400 #aircraft gates, five parallel runways, and new aviation technologies. The new terminal will enable the #airport to handle a passenger capacity of 260 million annually, compared to Sydney Kingsford Smith International's three runways and around 60 gates. The goal is to complete the first phase within the next 10 years, boosting capacity to accommodate 150 million passengers annually. The airport will also offer passengers no queues, no suitcases, and more destinations and #flights. Dubai's airlines, #Emirates and Fly Dubai, already connect to over 100 destinations, but the number of flights will skyrocket with more runways facilitating air traffic. (Credit: Escape)
