The adoption of the first-ever Cybercrime Convention by the UN General Assembly is such a powerful step forward! In today’s world, where so much of our lives happens online, having a global framework to tackle cybercrime couldn’t be more timely. For me, this feels like a much needed win for global collaboration. Cybercrime doesn’t respect borders, and neither should our efforts to address it. This convention promises quicker, more coordinated, and effective responses and that gives me hope for a safer, more secure digital world. But conventions like this only work when we all play our part governments, private organizations, and even individuals like you and me. On December 24, the 🇺🇳 United Nations General Assembly adopted the Cybercrime Convention, concluding more than three years of negotiations and work by Member States and the Ad-Hoc Committee on Cybercrime. The Convention will be open for signature by Member States in 🇻🇳 Hanoi by the end of 2025. This closes a stage, and the long path toward its implementation begins. I hope that all participants in this process continue with their work to confront the complexities of modern cybercrime while respecting the sovereignty of States, human rights and individual guarantees. #cybercrime #UN #cybersecurity
