Excellent article from David Smith on the criticality of turbocharging growth and productivity to pay for decent public services and solve the cost of living crisis. To put this in context, an eminent economist shared this week that if growth had continued at its normal rate over the last 15 years, we could have delivered both the tax cuts and the investment in public services we need, rather than viewing this as a political football to score points. The one thing every CEO, CFO and investor I speak to wants to see is long term stability and consistency on industrial strategy, investment incentives, infrastructure ambition and skills development with reduced friction with our largest trading partners.
