"The real concern over Applied Materials stems from its declining revenue in China. There, it reported revenue fell 28% from a year ago, to $2.14 billion. Last month, analysts had warned that Applied Materials might be hurt by slowing demand for dynamic random access memory in China, and it has also been hurt by the U.S. government’s ongoing demands that chipmaking equipment manufacturers refrain from selling advanced technology to customers in that country. Applied Materials’ Chinese sales are therefore dwindling, despite the fact that China’s domestic chipmaking industry is seeing rapid growth of late. "

The Indian CVD lab grown diamond manufacturing industry in undergoing substantial advances in technology as well as capacity expansion. Unfortunately it is somewhat shrouded in mystery. No one seem to have a good fix on how many CVD reactors are on stream and how many of them are powered by sustainable energy. Estimates of number of reactors have ranged from 10,000 to 20,000. Big producees such as Kira and others have claimed upwards of as much as 1700 CVD machines. There seems to be about 7 or 8 growers who are quite large. There needs to be more transparency. Western jewellery media does not seem to have a good understanding of what is happening in India. I have yet to see any coverage of large CVD growers from India in JCK or other jewellery media. I urge greater efforts by industry analysts and JCK Rappaport Idex and other media to give CVD in India and China greater coverage to improve our understanding of the current state of LGD production. We could use a change from all the coverage on De beers so how about equal time for LGD ? Thank you.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that 35% of the employees at the Roznov manufacturing facility are university graduates. The partnership with local universities was a crucial factor in securing the investment for the Czech Republic. This sets a benchmark for other investors in our region to follow! UPDATED AMPOWER Polymer Technology Landscape! Same procedure as every year! AMPOWER has updated its Polymer Landscape once again. Some consolidation has been going on in the last month, especially the Nano Dimension, Desktop Metal and Markforged merger has brought some movement into the industry. In addition to this, we saw multiple smaller companies vanished from the market. The AM market is definetly not sleeping, however what we see is that useres are getting more and more demanding in terms of the AM hardware, especially when it comes to industrial equipment. Customer service, reliability, quality and a reduction in cost per part are crucial to increase AM adoption. Recommended weekend reading: SECURING THE EUROPEAN UNION’S ELECTRONICS ECOSYSTEM https://lnkd.in/gM49UJZN I rarely promote (industry) papers but this is a good one. Some of you may know that I get quickly irritated when policy makers and CEOs talk about how subsidizing wafer fabs strengthens (Europe's) "strategic autonomy", "security of supply", "resilience", etc. The reality is that you can't do a whole lot with the finished wafer. The downstream processes - back-end manufacturing, PCBs, substrates, final assembly - matter just as much as the €20 billion wafer fab. The paper from IPC , DECISION Etudes & Conseil and Dieter G. Weiss provides a great overview of Europe's dependencies in these downstream processes. Of course, like with any other paper from an industry association, take it with a grain of salt. But I, at least, appreciate the amount of quantitative data and structured overview. Enjoy. 👍
