Over the past few months, we’ve been thrilled by the incredible number of startups that applied to join the Birdhouse 12-week program. Earlier last month, 49 of these startups had the opportunity to pitch live to our expert jury: 28 startups in the Tech vertical for Belgium and 21 in the AgeTech vertical for Europe.  Each vertical had its own tailored jury to provide the best possible feedback and insights! #MorningRant 📢 #DeepTech is not a sector, it is a characteristic on a venture’s technology stack. I’d like the ecosystem to consider how it labels ventures because it often creates the environment that actually confuses itself. Startupfest hosted the inaugural #HardTechFest which was a great addition to the event. #HardTech always gets a bad rap by investors for being more expensive to commercialize then software. The reality is that practically speaking it is actually less expensive to develop #hardware because there is an incredible amount of non-dilutive funding available for it that is not there for software. Hardware is HARDER however and I appreciate the moat that it develops for itself as a result.

Get those applications in! You have to step on the field in order to play the game. Investors rarely give a "hard no," but it's more of a "not yet." Just by applying, you're giving your startup a jumpstart in the process.
