What’s your formula for determining worth? Your equation for value? Mine- Focusing on the future + understanding that the past is in the past where it belongs. Sounds so simple and cliche right? I mean that’s a Pinterest banner quote if there ever was one. 😂 So, you know me n music… n you know I gotta share this… There is a song by Zach Bryan called “Dawns” In it he talks about how he wishes he had time back… his dawns back. He’s wasted so much time… so now what does he do? Makes a move… FORWARD. Decide today that you are worth that move forward. That the battle axe above the mantle was made for your hands. 🙌🏻 The cowl and cape that your kids made for you in craft class, so you could be a hero/heroine and sidekick, side by side… 🥰 was made with a purpose… stitched out of an undying love and belief in YOUR WORTH. So please… take if from me … an ol pirate captain 🏴☠️… ….you are worth it and anyone that says otherwise… well the CREW n me will be out sailing those 🌊 seas… and we’ll put em on notice….to stop flapping those gums. Love and Leadership and Sacrifice and Suffering: A Veteran's Day Reflection In my courses, I don't shy away from frustration. Or confusion. Or suffering! In the end, we finish strong and seal clarity. But the growth process ALWAYS involves struggle. One of MY favorite workshop games is also the most confusing and frustrating for my students- Leadercraft Mad Libs! It is also the foundation for everything because the cohort will discovery and experience the most important definitions for the "stuff" we do together in the course. Emotional Communications. Active Listening. Relationship-based Negotiations. So here's a definition that is perfect for leaders and lovers and our cherished Veterans: Love! We are stuck in a social structure that has forgotten what love is. Love in common usage is completely divorced from leadership and service. Most folks think it is an erotic sentiment. Or a titillation of the appetites: "Dan loves pizza!" NO. Stawp. Love is "willing the good of another person". Love is sacrificing your desires and needs in service of someone else. True love has nothing to do with sex or preferences in culinary delights! Love is a veteran who spent years away from loved ones to preserve liberty for millions of people they will never meet. Love is the leader who listens first and gives agency to the team. Love is service without expectation of payment now or ever. Love is The Cross; the Savior who laid down His life and told us this was the highest love: to lay down one's life for one's friends. There is no true leadership without sacrifice. Love is inseparable from suffering done for a worthy cause. It's not about you! So love someone today in the right sense. Veterans who loved me already- love you guys and gals. Stay strong.
