Satellite imaging is revolutionizing how insurers assess risk. Effectively improving insurers' ability to spot and quantify risk, leading to better protection for policyholders. Satellite imaging and aerial surveillance provide insurers with up-to-date information about changes in land use, vegetation health, and weather patterns. Insurers can leverage this data to identify areas prone to natural disasters, assess property damage after disasters, and evaluate their portfolios' overall risk exposure. Additionally, these technologies allow insurers to monitor changes over time, allowing for better risk management. #SatelliteImaging #InsurerRiskAssessment #RiskAssessment #NaturalDisasterDetection #RiskExposureEvaluation #RiskManagementTechnologies #ClimateChange #Insurtech

It's finally time to release another episode (https://lnkd.in/eu_c_bSF) - this time with Spatial Risk Systems. It was a privilege to talk with Partner and Lead Data Scientist Alex Vengerovsky. Amongst other things, SRS have developed a geographic information system for the finance industry that scores US counties, zip codes and census tracts on 4 risk dimensions. These are climate impact, environmental risk, community vulnerability and community resilience. These are also aggregated as an overall risk score. This system can then be used to rate the spatial risk of a given asset, such as by using the footprint of a building. This is an important service in the context of, for example, the insurance industry no longer making any money from natural catastrophe insurance according to Fitch Ratings: "Natural catastrophe business has become largely loss-making in recent years as prices have failed to keep pace with increasingly frequent, severe and volatile weather-related losses due to climate change." For more detail, check out SRS' YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/eX7Sh_9a THE GEOSPATIAL INDEX The Geospatial Index is a comprehensive listing of all publicly traded geospatial businesses worldwide. Why? The industry is growing at ~10% annually. For only $58,000 to start, this growth rate is $5,000,000 over a working life. This channel, Bluesky account, newsletter, watchlist and podcast express the view that you are serious about geospatial if you take the view of an investor, venture capitalist or entrepreneur. You are expected to do your own research. This is not a replacement for that. This is not investment advice. Consider it entertainment. By tapping into the capabilities of geospatial systems, insurers are getting better at predicting and managing weather-related risks. They’re keeping customer assets safe, making risk assessments more accurate, handling claims more smoothly, and getting their customers more involved in staying safe. Here’s How: Geospatial solutions tailored for the insurance industry gather real-time weather data from different sources like weather stations and satellites. They overlay this data with information about locations. Insurance providers can analyse this information to figure out weather patterns, track storms, and keep an eye on atmospheric conditions. This helps them make smarter predictions about what’s going to happen in specific areas. Learn more about how we use weather-based data to assist leading insurance companies with risk calculations, safety measures and claims processes. https://lnkd.in/dXmrAUis Superior location data. 🔥 Unlocking the Power of Data: Enhancing Wildfire Mitigation Efforts in Utilities 🔥 James Conlin's recent article delves into a critical topic that's not just about safeguarding assets but also about protecting lives and communities. As wildfires continue to wreak havoc across various regions, utilities are at the forefront of addressing the risks associated with their infrastructure. One aspect that particularly resonates with me is the integration of AI-enabled technologies to bolster asset maintenance and vegetation management while simultaneously reducing wildfire risk. The example of PG&E's implementation of at-a-glance visual data technology underscores the transformative potential of leveraging advanced analytics in mitigating wildfire threats. However, what truly stands out is the imperative to incorporate all available data sources to enhance risk awareness. From weather data to lidar, aerial imagery, and satellite data, the wealth of information at our disposal is staggering. Yet, harnessing this data often necessitates a significant IT effort, GIS or 3D modeling capabilities, and expertise in artificial intelligence. Indeed, while the benefits of deploying such technologies are undeniable, the journey towards comprehensive risk management is not without its challenges. Utilities must be prepared to invest in developing the necessary resources and competencies to effectively harness the power of data in mitigating wildfire risks. Looking ahead, I'm intrigued by the question: What resources and competencies will utilities need to develop in the future to cope with these evolving needs? The path forward undoubtedly involves a concerted effort to cultivate expertise in GIS, 3D modeling, and AI, among other areas. Only by embracing a multidisciplinary approach can utilities truly fortify their defenses against wildfire risks and ensure the resilience of their operations. Conlin's article serves as a timely reminder of the pressing need for utilities to prioritize wildfire mitigation efforts. By harnessing the power of data and investing in the requisite resources and competencies, utilities can not only protect their assets but also fulfill their responsibility to the communities they serve. Let's continue the dialogue and work together towards a safer, more resilient future for all. 🌿🔍 #WildfireMitigation #DataDrivenSolutions #UtilityInnovation #Utilities https://lnkd.in/gskFggEf Spottitt Sharper Shape Group Andrew Abranches
