What does experience look like? Everyone is new at some point! And you probably have more experience than you think that translates into being an awesome real estate investor. Or business owner. Or whatever you want to do. Experience for being a real estate investor can look like: Owning your own home – you already know how to find and buy a home, and going through the closing process once is more experience than a lot of people have. Parenting – you are already a multi-tasking genius, functioning on little to no sleep and often assisting loud, irrational people. Fun fact: big people (home sellers, contractors, even sometimes renters) often behave like that, too! Work with projects – each real estate project has a timeline and budget, things you might already handle at your current job. Experience in competitive sports – the persistent, never-give-up attitude you need for competitive sports will serve you well when go after a real estate deal. Tinkering around the house or on your car– you’ll be better prepared to take on maintenance and repairs of your new rental or fix and flip home. Travel buff – you already like to see what new cities are like. Filter that information with an investor’s lens and you’ll be great at picking out new investment markets. The home budgeter – you might think keeping a tight reign on your personal budget is an unfortunate necessity, but it’s preparing you to carefully manage your dollars once you are an investor running a business. The constant questioner – are you always asking why? As an investor a whole new world of questions and problem solving is waiting for you. HINT: the new question that will take you farthest is transforming the statement, “I can’t do that,” to “HOW can I do that?” And my personal fave, arts and crafts fanatic– what’s a home renovation but a giant craft project?? You already have all the basic skills you need to begin your real estate investing journey. But it does require that you begin.
