Great insights from my dear friend and colleague Brad Borkan in his latest book.
Award-winning author & speaker. 📚 Insights from epic people - explorers like Shackleton, small teams like the Wright Brothers, statesmen and others. 🧭 Learn from the past. Make better decisions in the future.
There is a common misconception about teamwork that team members MUST agree on everything 🤨 💥 Not so. Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton had strong and opposite opinions on whether to advocate for women's rights during the US Civil War, and yet, here they are - their clasp immortalised forever in plaster. 🤝 This cast was made in 1895 to commemorate Stanton's 80th birthday and represents their collaboration in the fight for women's rights. Had you heard of these two names before today? Of all the very small teams David and I studied for our new book, we found none more awe-inspiring than Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. 📌 If you'd like to watch my lecture at the RGS from last week, just tap the link below! https://lnkd.in/eQGginWm #womensrights #suffrage #detirmination #teamwork

It is extraordinarily important for us to honor and respect the leadership of DA Fani Willis. As a young black man it is immensely simple to become a cynic about law enforcement in the face of the legitimate offenses and onslaughts of which I too am no stranger. I however believe if we live in a world where we imagine that the model of our society without the rule of law and competent law enforcement is a clear sign of insanity and the proliferation hysterical misinformation. We must stand by DA Willis because it is a mistake to view her stand on the current case as merely a referendum on President Trump and his efforts to misinform the American people on the outcome of the election, but more important is the extent to which it stands to protect the sovereignty and preeminence of the Constitution and the solemn notion that no one is above the long but balanced arm of the law, while also loudly and poignantly asserting that we possess a justice system that works for ALL people without bias or malignant predilection. As African Americans we have suffered dearly from the unfair and unequal treatment and execution of falsely portrayed lawful initiatives. We have witnessed the unconstitutional intrusion of prejudice initiatives and unshakeable biases into legislative prerogatives, so placing our people at a unique disadvantage. The stance of DA Willis is firmly in defense of and supportive of the 14th Amendment, for those who might have forgotten the language of this amendment, the 14th Amendment was written and positioned to support the Emancipation Proclamation which was a war measure and could thus be overturned post war after the dissolution of the President's broad powers afforded He/She during an active contingency. Elements of the Amendment do in fact prohibit the existence of slavery or the proliferation of institutions that enslave any humans by economic, jurisdictional or any other forced measures, let's think about that for a moment. However, the leading notion was that ALL people are due EQUAL treatment UNDER the law, which also means equal protection and unbiased due process of law! DA Willis represents a public testament and hopefully a silent monument post trial that not only is no one above the law, but also it is possible, through the appropriate execution of our right to vote, community engagement with the implementation of legislative prerogatives and the creation of community support systems to recreate and maybe I'd go as far as to say, rebirth a judicial system and court process that is worthy of the sacrifices of our founding fathers, that reflects the ideals and ideologies that they held so dear and which formed the framework of our democracy and/or democratic republic. This ecosystem in respect of constitutional law in this space and day seems fantastical and overtly difficult to achieve, but worth fighting for and if we do might bring into view a day where fairness and equity can boldly and fairly visit all people!
Had the pleasure of meeting some truly inspiring individuals recently. Mr.and Mrs. Roy Barnes left a lasting impression on me with their incredible legacy, stories, and history. But, my conversation with Fani Willis genuinely moved me. Hearing about her journey in a male-dominated field and feeling her passion and compassion was truly inspiring. As someone who supports women and minorities, meeting Fani, who is about my height and making waves in her industry, reminded me why I do what I do. Let's continue to support and uplift each other, especially those breaking barriers and paving the way for a more inclusive future. #WomenInBusiness #InclusivityMatters

It’s Women’s History Month. As a feminist litigation firm, we still have a long way to go to achieve gender parity at work, in healthcare, in schools, and just about every other facet of public life. But we won’t stop fighting. Our female clients come to us in some of the most profoundly distressing situations of their lives. They’re being fired for taking maternity leave. They’ve been harassed by their bosses. They’re being dismissed and disregarded by doctors. Too often in these situations women lose their voice. Discrimination and abuse rob women of their dignity. It strips us of our humanity and makes us feel alone. While litigation is never an easy process, in the overwhelming majority of our cases, we find our clients gain their voices back. They find the courage to stand up to the person who harmed them and say, “what you did to me was wrong. I deserve justice.” And we’re here to help them navigate every step of the process so they can finally move forward with their lives. “Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women.” —Maya Angelou We are proud to be leaders in the fight for women’s rights, this Women’s History Month and every other month. Thank you to our clients and loyal supporters for believing in us. #womenshistory #civilrights #activism #empowerment #advocacy
