Uzbekistan Grants More Autonomy to Special Economic Zones Uzbekistan has streamlined the management of its Special Economic Zones (SEZs) by abolishing administrative councils and granting SEZ directorates increased autonomy. A new law signed on December 5 empowers directorates to approve investment proposals, allocate land, and oversee infrastructure projects, cutting bureaucracy and expediting decision-making. The changes aim to attract investments and accelerate project implementation by removing requirements like expert evaluations of business plans. Harsher Penalties Imposed for Unauthorized Land Occupation in Uzbekistan Uzbekistan has enacted stricter penalties for unauthorized land occupations and violations in land allocation, as per a new law signed by President Mirziyoyev on November 15. Fines for first-time violations have been increased to 30 BCUs (11.25 million UZS) for citizens and 70 BCUs (26.25 million UZS) for officials. Unauthorized construction fines now reach up to 200 BCUs (75 million UZS) for citizens and 400 BCUs (150 million UZS) for officials.
