SEBI: INTRODUCES FRAMEWORK TO MONITOR SHAREHOLDING OF MARKET INFRASTRUCTURE INSTITUTIONS
SEBI introduces a framework to monitor shareholding limits, public shareholding requirements, and the "fit & proper" criteria for Market Infrastructure Institutions (MIIs), which include stock exchanges, clearing corporations and depositories, w.e.f. January 12, 2025; Outlines that - (i) each MII shall appoint a non-associated Designated Depository (DD) to monitor compliance with shareholding limits, while for depositories, the other depository will act as their DD, (ii) both listed and unlisted MIIs shall disclose their shareholding patterns quarterly on their websites as per LODR norms, and (iii) the DD will monitor breaches of the threshold limit of 5% or 15% as applicable under Stock Exchanges and Clearing Corporation Regulations and Depositories and Participants Regulations respectively and take necessary actions.
