Today marks my 6th anniversary at OneGoal, and I can’t help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude and joy. It’s been an incredible journey, and to celebrate, I want to share three reflections that have shaped my time here: 1. Self-care is everything. In a mission-driven space like ours, it’s easy to pour endlessly into the work. But I’ve learned that I can only bring my best self to this team and our students because we truly value each other here. People matter, and that makes all the difference. 2. Diverse experiences lead to lasting impact. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to 4 out of the 5 functional teams in our region. Each role brought its own set of challenges and growth, but it’s in these varied experiences that I’ve been able to shape our systems and help drive our program’s success. I’ve seen firsthand how every perspective strengthens us. 3. Lead with, not above. As a leader, I’ve learned the importance of doing the work alongside my team. Growth doesn’t happen in isolation, and I’ve continued to develop not only as a professional but also as a partner to those around me. It’s the relationships we build that make the work meaningful. Here’s to many more years, even greater impact in NYC, and continuing to grow with each of you by my side.

Celebrating my four-year work anniversary at Heriot Brown In-House Legal Recruitment with some reflections on the four key lessons I've learned along the way 📚 : 1️⃣ Pay it forward ⏩ : You never know whose future you'll influence or how they'll impact yours. The Heriot Brown Community embodies this ethos of mutual, long-term benefit. 2️⃣ Celebrate small wins 🙌 : I tend to be a "glass half empty" person (recruitment can do that!), but focusing on marginal gains has transformed my perspective. 3️⃣ Managing a team is humbling 📈 : Stepping into management has been the steepest learning curve of my career—challenging but deeply rewarding. 4️⃣ Culture is everything 🌳 : I joined Heriot Brown for the people, and that's why I stay. Despite our growth, we've maintained the same purpose, drive, and dedication that captivated me from day one. What lessons have you learned in your career that have shaped your journey? P.S. Thanks James Betteley for treating me to a celebratory lunch!

May marked my 9-year anniversary at Pluralsight. You may know that, during this time, I took a leap in my career by moving from business strategy to People. A pivot into HR wasn't a move I saw myself making, but after almost a decade with the company and 6 years in people management, I've learned a few things: 👉 Embrace the unknown; stepping out of your comfort zone fosters growth. 👉 Being able to adapt is an underrated skill and will always set you up for success. 👉 Cultivating an ownership attitude empowers you to add value in any circumstance. I look forward to many more learnings and would love to know: what's a risk you've taken that's paid off? ⤵

Yesterday we celebrated the one year work anniversary of one of our team members, Heidi. We were talking about how Oaktree started and I was telling the team about the idea for Oaktree and those early days. No clients. No revenue. In the early days Chris and I did it all. We had the time because we didn’t have a lot of client work yet. But growth required more than just us. To all the Lilly connections on here I know you know this. Your teams are critical to your success. No one does it alone. Everyone contributes. Everyone has a role. You don’t know everything others know and they don’t know everything you know. Together you’re a great team. This is true in families just as much as in business. A mom’s role and a dad’s role are different. Their skillsets are different. But both working together are critical to the success of the family. Growth and improvement requires teamwork professionally and personally. If you want a team that can partner with you to quarterback your financial life choose a partner that best plays that role. Most financial advisors are generalists. We are not. We don’t work with just anyone. We specialize in working with Eli Lilly employees. Our role on your team is to answer your financial questions, relieve your stress around money, simplify complicated finances, and free up your time.

Please join us in congratulating Matthew Krause on his 10 year work anniversary! We sat down with Matthew to talk about his tenure at Krause, his accomplishments, and the many lessons learned over the years. Q: What is the key to staying successful in your 10-year tenure? A: "The key has been a combination of adaptability and a deep passion for innovation. Over the past decade, I’ve embraced new trends, challenges, and opportunities, always staying curious and driven to deliver unique and inspiring solutions." Q: What is the most important lesson you have learned in the last 10 years? A: "The most valuable lessons I’ve learned happened when everything was “going wrong.” It is in these moments where we have the choice to give up or use it as fuel for growth. It is the power of collaboration. While individual creativity is important, the most successful projects are born from a team effort, where diverse ideas come together to create something truly remarkable." Q: What accomplishment are you most proud of? A: "It is an interesting thing summing up one’s experiences over the course of 10 years. I’m incredibly proud of our team and leadership’s ability to push creative solutions and not being satisfied with the “status quo.” Over the decade, I was given opportunities to use my creativity nature to lead several in-house advancements to the company. This has not only brought fresh, creative solutions to our internal team, but also experiences to our clients that has had a lasting impact on Krause’s outreach. Each one stands as a testament to the importance of a company that allows you the ability to stay curious about the world around each of us and the community at large. Hard work and passion are at the core of our entire team." Q: With a decade of experience under your belt, do you have any advice to up-and-coming individuals in your field? A: "Be a shark, in the best possible way. Adapt to change, stay curious, seek out your interests, embrace challenges, never stop moving forward, and learn all you can, while you can."

Today is my 13 year anniversary at my company. It’s a bit of a tradition for people in my org to get an email of congrats for them sent out to everyone for the team to say “Hey great job”. I haven’t gotten one of these in 5 years. I casually mentioned this to my leadership a few years back and was told “Well we always thought you were above idle praise. “, and don’t get me wrong there’s a bit of a truth to that. However, as someone who has worked on both sides of the coin as a leader and as a direct report, my advice is to let that person decide that. Give them the praise and then let them tell you “Hey you don’t have to do that. “ The reason is because so many times our direct reports can feel unseen, or under appreciated. There’s a ton of times where there’s maybe something personal going on and they as people feel unseen or under appreciated. It’s not up to us as leaders to decide that for them, it’s up to us to let them make that choice and it’s up to us to understand that sometimes situations change. Praise your people when you can and where you can and let them know they’re valued for the investment they put into YOU and your company. They’re the lifeblood of what makes you look good, so if a 3 minute email is what you can do to make them feel valued, that’s a 3 minute investment worth it every single time and anything beyond that time is just better and better. That said, my favorite part of being here for 13 years has been the chance and opportunities to meet incredible people and in my learning and development role show my appreciation for the dedication and talent everyone I meet brings to the table every single day. It pushes me as an employee, a leader, a person to be my best self every single day. If I’ve interacted with you at my company, THANK YOU. Even for the smallest of time, because it reminds me of why I’m here and the fantastic company I keep. I can’t wait to do more and see where this ride takes me. Skal.
