↜↜UNVEILING TIBA; ECHOES OF AFRICA↝↝ Though I missed the keynote speech, I was in luck to be there for the panel session ELEVATING AFRIAN BRANDS ON THE GLOBAL STAGE. During the discussion, the panellist agreed that Africans are quite talented but need to do more in the areas of Originality of our stories ( it’s actually cheaper to be yourself than being someone else),implementation, collaboration, innovation and integrity as these form key factors limiting African Brands. About Going Global, the panellist highlighted points to consider in going global; which include understanding of the target audience through proper research;Being professional in business dealings and having self-confidence. The highlight for me was the part where the panellist shared some personal setback experiences. Frank Lenz from his experience learnt Entrepreneurship and proper business communication. Osinachi Akanegbu mentioned one of my pain point about employees not inquiring about their organisation’s revenue generation and how their everyday actions can greatly impact revenue - this one sweet me ( i was screaming in my mind; “ Come talk to Vedil Clothing staff!). MINTA attested to how delegation helped her leverage on people’s abilities. I do have a major setback experience and i’m intentionally leveraging on these outings big time. The Concept of the 12 Cs is something I will definitely understudy. You can check them out as well: Clarity, Competence, Confidence, Connection, Continuous learning, Charisma, Credential,Calling, Culture, Community, Character and Credibility. Other activities were the unveiling of the new TIBA, games, best dressed competition and refreshments. It was an awesome experience and in summary we learnt, laughed, relaxed, networked and took pictures. A big shout -out to the convenor of TIBA Omobabinrin Adeola Osideko, the TIBA board members and volunteers. Africa is a vast continent with diverse markets and needs. While South African brands have potential, they must approach expansion with humility and strategic thinking. The example of The South African Breweries (SAB) is insightful. Instead of imposing their own brand, Castle Lager, they chose to partner with local brands in Poland, demonstrating an understanding of local preferences and market dynamics. Focusing on African expansion makes sense, as the continent offers growth opportunities and cultural affinities. By adapting to local contexts and needs, South African brands can build strong partnerships and customer relationships, increasing their chances of success. The barriers to entry in Europe are indeed high, with established brands and intense competition.
