Many LGBTQ+ seniors grew up in times of severe discrimination, affecting their trust in healthcare systems. **Tailored Approach**: Culturally sensitive training for healthcare providers can help build trust and open communication. LGBTQ+ seniors are more likely to be single and less likely to have children, which can lead to isolation and mental health challenges. **Tailored Approach**: Creating community programs and support groups specifically for LGBTQ+ seniors can provide vital social support. Studies suggest that LGBTQ+ seniors might face a higher risk of certain conditions like heart disease, depression, and HIV/AIDS. **Tailored Approach**: Healthcare providers need to be proactive in screening and providing preventative care tailored to these risks. Past discrimination can lead LGBTQ+ seniors to hide their identity from healthcare providers, impacting the care they receive. **Tailored Approach**: Establishing non-discrimination policies and visibly inclusive environments can encourage openness for better health outcomes. There is a scarcity of health resources that specifically address the needs of LGBTQ+ seniors. **Tailored Approach**: Developing training programs about the specific health concerns of LGBTQ+ seniors for medical professionals is crucial. Ensuring that LGBTQ+ seniors receive compassionate and competent care will not only improve their quality of life but also honor their contributions to our communities over the decades. #LGBTQSeniors #InclusiveHealthcare #SeniorCare #AgingWithPride #LGBTQAging #ElderCare #SeniorHealth #LGBTQAdvocacy #HealthEquality #PrideInAging

We started with a mission to change lives, and today, that mission is changing the world. Being featured in an article about people-led social enterprises is more than just recognition—it’s proof that our work at MIST LGBTQ+ Foundation is making a real impact. From day one, we set out to build something that mattered. QueerBazaar is more than a platform; it’s a lifeline connecting our community to essential HIV testing, treatment, prevention, and mental health services. And we didn't stop there. By providing free health insurance to transgender individuals, funded by our own revenue, we’re not just serving—we're empowering. This is just the beginning. Every step forward is a step towards a future where healthcare is inclusive, accessible, and driven by the very communities it serves. Let’s keep pushing boundaries. We’re just getting started. #QueerBazaar #TAAL #HIVCare #LGBTQ+ #Inclusion #HealthcareInnovation #SocialImpact

Let us celebrate Pride month by spreading awareness and addressing health disparities in the LGBTQ+ community At NYU-CUNY-PRC, we are committed to promoting health equity and improving access to preventive care for all. Despite significant progress, the LGBTQ+ community continues to face unique health disparities, often worsened by barriers to care and social stigma. Preventive care is essential for early detection and treatment of health issues, reducing the risk of severe outcomes. However, LGBTQ+ individuals often encounter challenges such as: - Limited Access to Inclusive Healthcare: Many face discrimination or lack of culturally competent care. - Mental Health Concerns: Higher rates of depression and anxiety due to societal pressures and marginalization. - Increased Risk for Certain Conditions: Such as HIV/AIDS, particularly among gay and bisexual men, and cervical cancer among lesbian women who may not receive regular screenings. We believe in creating an inclusive environment where every individual feels safe and respected when seeking care. Here are a few steps we can take together: - Education and Training: Ensure healthcare providers receive training on LGBTQ+ health issues and cultural competency. - Community Outreach: Enhance awareness and accessibility of preventive services through targeted outreach programs. - Advocacy and Policy Change: Advocate for policies that protect LGBTQ+ rights and improve healthcare access. Join us in our mission to reduce health disparities and foster a healthier, more inclusive community for all. #LGBTQHealth #PreventiveCare #HealthEquity #NYUCUNYPRC #InclusiveHealthcare

Today, the 2SLGBTQI+ community received the difficult news that all three of the Alberta government's bills affecting transgender people were passed. This news was not unexpected, and the next step will be a fierce legal battle which several Alberta organizations are already planning. As your comms friend: This is going to be a really hard time for our friends and loved ones in the community. The legal challenge will keep the issue in the spotlight and the news cycle, exposing the community to ongoing commentary (much of it hostile) and stereotyping as they watch their rights and protections being debated in court for months. Legal battles also tend to attract negative attention and put community members at risk. This is an important time to lift up the voices of community members and help them tell their stories. These bills, and the debate they've sparked, rely on fear and stereotypes - that youth are being pressured to identify as trans or non-binary, that children can't know or speak for themselves, that gender affirming care is drastic and dangerous. But trans people, and particularly trans youth, aren't being heard, and we can help with that.
Three bills aimed at harming children and further discriminating against trans women were passed where we live, Alberta. This disappointing step back only highlights how the UCP government is more concerned with spreading hate before helping everyday Canadians. These bills forcibly out queer kids in school, taking away any safe spaces and safe people they had at school while also denying them health care that drastically improved survivability amongst suicidal queer children. They also include legislation to cut down on sexual health that contribute to the fight against HIV/AIDS and teaching consent. Finally they discriminate against trans women, taking yet another step to harm our community. While our community will fight back, while we will stay strong and proud, while we will contest this in courts, remember to take care of each other. #endtranshate #transkidsmatter #translivesarehumanlives #stoptranshate #transrights #lgbtq #lgbtqrights #stopantitranslegislation

On World AIDS Day, we recognize the critical intersection of HIV/AIDS and diversity, equity, and inclusion. 🟥🌍 The impact of the epidemic has been disproportionately felt by marginalized communities, including people of color, the LGBTQ+ community, and those living in poverty. As we honor those affected, we must also recommit to dismantling the systemic barriers that prevent equitable access to care, education, and resources. True progress will only come when we center the voices of the most vulnerable, address health disparities, and ensure that everyone is treated with dignity and respect. ✊ #WorldAIDSDay #DEI #EndHealthDisparities #InclusiveCare

🌈 Celebrating Pride Month: Advocating for 2SLGBTQIA+ Health 🌈 As we honor Pride Month, it's crucial to reflect on the impactful conversations happening around 2SLGBTQIA+ health and how community health centers can drive change. A recent discussion between Ethan Goodman, MPA, and Dr. Dorian Rhea Debussy from Equitas Health shed light on how health centers can engage with state lawmakers to advocate for 2SLGBTQIA+ issues. Key Takeaways: ✅ Engagement with Lawmakers: Building relationships with state lawmakers through public comments, policy meetings, and sharing community stories is vital. These efforts ensure lawmakers understand the real-life impact of their policies on our communities. ✅The Power of Storytelling: A Catalyst for Change storytelling is not just a narrative, it's a potent advocacy tool. It serves as a bridge between policymakers and the communities they represent, bringing to light the tangible effects of legislation. ✅ Success Stories: Equitas Health's ongoing efforts to modernize outdated HIV laws in Ohio demonstrate the power of persistent advocacy and collaboration with lawmakers. As I reflect on my work advocating for gender-affirming primary care in rural California, I've seen firsthand the importance of state-level advocacy. Engaging with local lawmakers, sharing the stories of our patients, and maintaining a genuine, communicative approach are critical components of our strategy. These advocacy efforts are even more crucial in rural areas, where access to gender-affirming care is often limited. By building solid relationships with state officials, healthcare leaders can drive policy changes that ensure equitable healthcare access for all. #PrideMonth #LGBTQHealth #Advocacy #CommunityHealth
