Health tech should simplify, not complicate, the work of healthcare professionals. By prioritising user-centred design and involving clinicians in the development process, we can create effective tools that ease their workload and reduce burnout. Smart design means better care and happier, more efficient healthcare workers. #SmartHealthTech #ClinicianFirst #InnovateHealthcare

To truly transform #healthcare with #technology, it’s essential that the tools we design genuinely meet the daily needs of healthcare professionals to prevent burnout and enhance patient care. Currently, many tech solutions like EHRs complicate rather than simplify clinicians' work, contributing to #burnout due to their complexity and poor fit with daily tasks. By adopting a user-centered design approach and involving healthcare workers in every step of development, we can ensure our innovations not only fit seamlessly into their workflow but also genuinely support and improve their critical work.

In the past few years, healthcare has seen a drastic increase in burnout and dissatisfaction leading to staffing shortages nationwide. That's why technology solutions like these are imperative as they aim to help hospitals serve patients while improving staff experiences. Virtual care provides the opportunity for healthcare workers to educate patients and answer inquiries while reducing the number of patient requests directed directly to medical professionals. Not only is technology like this easy to operate and use, it boosts patient satisfaction and increases the amount of time staff can spend with patients! #healthcare #HealthTech #HealthcareStaffing

The CU Denver Business School conducted a survey, revealing that while medical technology such as artificial intelligence and telehealth appointments can enhance healthcare access, it may also negatively impact employee retention within the industry. The survey, part of the 2023 Health Systems Climate Study by the Health Administration Research Consortium (HARC), highlighted CEOs' growing concerns about finding the right balance between technological advancements and maintaining a personal touch in healthcare. The rapid adoption of telehealth and other technologies, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has led to challenges in integrating these tools into existing workflows and processes, causing stress and contributing to burnout among healthcare professionals. This situation has resulted in increased resignations among physicians, nurses, and other healthcare workers. ⭐ Key findings from the survey determine that 95% of CEOs recognize the value of digital technology for administrative purposes, but only 73% see its value in clinical decision-making, indicating a reluctance among physicians to fully embrace technology. Additionally, only 46% of CEOs believe staffing levels will return to normal within three to six months, underscoring the significant impact of technology on workforce stability in the healthcare sector. https://lnkd.in/e_Tw8Mjd

I had the pleasure of contributing to this book, Digital Health, Telemedicine and Beyond. It has a broad list of topics including the basics of services, reimbursement, and regulations. I wrote the "Coding for Telehealth/CMS guidelines" chapter. I still don't believe this myself, but my most interesting and impactful work has been on reimbursement and regulation. Here I describe some of it based on the behemoth that is #CMS. Edited by Dipu Patel, DMSc, MPAS, ABAIM, PA-C as she describes it: "With a strong focus on case studies and patient outcomes, this title provides an overview of digital medicine, terms, concepts, and applications for the multidisciplinary clinical practitioner. Chapters provide a concise, yet comprehensive understanding of digital health, including telemedicine, mHealth, EHRs, and the benefits and challenges of each. The book gives insights on risks and benefits associated with storing and transmitting patient information via digital tools and educates clinicians in the correct questions to ask for advocacy regarding state laws, scope of practice, and medicolegal implications." I'm joined with a number of incredible authors. PART 1 Highlights of special video series on Physician Retention, Recruitment & Well-being with Dr. Kevin Post Tell us, Why your Writing appeals to healthcare leaders seeking physician Engagement? As I wrote on this chapter, the topic on telehealth, I think, first I really wanted to start out with the importance of the why behind why we need physician engagement for telehealth to be successful, whether that's the integration of technology into the patient physician relationship, the adoption of by the clinic clinicians to kind of rise to the challenge that really, I think came to the forefront during the pandemic. But as we mentioned, we're always there before and then how do we leverage technology in areas of the country where there are geographical challenges because regardless of your zip code, your social determinants of health really believe that telehealth is a great tool we can leverage to kind of help balance some of them challenges. And then as many things you know, as go as go the physicians so goes the effort. When it comes to telehealth, if you do not have physician buy-in physician support, I really think it can affect the impact and the success of telehealth efforts.
