Multitasking is a myth? But not doing it would be the end of any startup. What I am talking about is simultaneously develop the service/product AND build the company itself. One cannot exist without the other. 📦 🏢 So, every group of founders does multitasking, but quite often very badly balanced, so that their startup fails. ❌ Side note: up to 90% of all new startups fail and the top 3 reason is Team/HR issues (https://lnkd.in/dzGBRPaE). I have seen countless startup founders on a well funded mission, with a great vision, clever product/service and the passion to see it through. But even then, many of them are no longer around or are still heavily struggling. ❓Why? Check for yourself: if you are a founder or working in an early stage startup, look around and count the people and the hours spent on developing the product/service and then those dedicated to building the company itself. I bet, there is maybe one out of 10, who spends time on finding talent, interviewing them, writing contracts, making sure, that everyone gets payed at the end of the month etc. But that person does so on top of his/her actual job or part time. Correct? Plus, what that person does is merely keeping the show running. Because this has often not much to do with professional recruiting, hiring, contracting, payroll and internal communications. ⭕ ⭕ I am not saying that you need as many people for building and maintaining the company as you do for developing and producing the product/service. But there should be some professional 'People people' making sure, the company grows and the team thrives in a healthy way. 👤👤👤 In other words: you need people taking care of the team, which develops the product/service. The people departments are the skeleton keeping the company upright and stable. And my observation in scale ups and SMEs is that around 10% of the workforce should be dedicated to HR/people topics to make it work. 👉 What are your observations?
