Investing in the learning and development of teachers means investing in the community. Creating a pipeline of success is what happens when community organizations comes together and open the access to resources.
In our refreshed Blueprint coming soon, we explore how high-performing education systems work hard to bring people and institutions across the community together on behalf of young people. This piece by Dr. Cassandra Herring of the Branch Alliance for Educator Diversity offers examples of just that. "Trough community partnerships, we can build a pipeline of educators equipped to thrive in today’s classrooms on day one, delivering a more inclusive and equitable education system for all." https://lnkd.in/gqXevdDh
OPINION: Minority-serving institutions’ powerful partnerships with school districts can help solve the national teaching shortage

How many of you know the #conflict our #students, #teachers, #parents, and #administration face daily? There are several but I want to highlight #reading today because of the challenges faced by all. This article looks at the quagmire in our largest school system in the US, New York and how to successfully integrate reading across a a diverse community of learners. With three major options plus ancillary learning tools, navigating through these plus maintaining scores is a challenge that the leaders of other industries rarely encounter if ever. So how can you get involved? 1.Read policy and support schools in your community. 2. Advocate for policy changes that align with the needs of our schools. 3. Give your talents, time, and tokens-Volunteer, offer services, and donate. One or more of these three steps, afford you the opportunity to make a "power if ONE" change in your community that does not require more than you can give. Reading is essential, and it is a requirement for the sustainability of our businesses and the entire ecosystem. Not sure how to get involved? 📢 Go to your next school board meeting or 📢 Walk to a school in your neighborhood and ask this question: How can I help? Reflection: After leaving a school yesterday, where I read to a classroom of third graders, I realized that I had to be more than a parent to my autistic first grade son, I had to be a community parent and peer support for the amazing teachers of #k12 who work tirelessly with our #students so they succeed and make it into our businesses and #highered #classrooms. "Are you coming back tomorrow?" This future veterinarian and current anime artist looked at me with those bright 9 year old eyes and said: "I hope so. I liked you being here." 🌟Lesson: We all have the ability to create #peaceful and #collaborative spaces and #workplaces that ignite #joy #love, #empathy and #positivity. Choose to take action over giving a reaction.

Check out this excerpt from the Epilogue of the book, On the Same Team; Bringing Educators and Underrepresented Families Together and you'll want to get the book. Right on - Ari Gerzon-Kessler!
Bridge Builder Between Schools and Families; National Speaker, Trainer & Coach; Award-Winning Author
Today my daughter, Selah, turns 18-months-old. She has broke open my heart and filled my days with so much more joy, purpose, and learning. While she woke us five times last night in an unusually rough sleep cycle, just the sight of her smile this morning was enough to energize me for the day. It was a long and arduous wait for me to become a father, and I don't take a single day of it for granted. In her honor, I'm sharing here the opening paragraphs from the epilogue of my new book, On The Same Team: Bringing Educators and Underrepresented Families Together: "As I was in the middle of writing this book, my wife gave birth to our first baby. I was aware of the deep attachment between caregiver and child after spending two years as a foster parent some years ago. Nonetheless, I have been in constant awe of the immense love that I feel for our daughter, who is on her playmat beside me as I write these words. There is something special about the bond we build when we are with them from their first day and sacrifice sleep and so much more to ensure that they thrive. My experience, like that of countless parents, sheds light on the untapped potential for stronger school-family partnerships. Every parent feels deeply invested in the current and future well-being of their children. As a result, we are inclined to do what we can to ensure that their time at school maximizes their growth. If as educators we look at every family as a potentially outstanding ally rather than an occasional interloper, we can better harness the power of partnerships. Additionally, if we enhance our approach -- both in the practices we use and the spirit in which we engage in them -- we can overcome existing obstacles, improve collaboration, and strengthen our ties." #familyengagement #schoolimprovement #teachers #students #families #schoolleaders Solution Tree TalkingPoints Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning Sherri Wilson National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) Jennifer Miller Karen Mapp Anne T.
